Is the foldable iPhone with a regenerative display coming soon?

Apple apparently has exciting plans for the iPhone. A look at the technologies recently approved as patents makes it clear that the tech company could equip future smartphones with a foldable and even self-healing display.

iPhone with significantly more longevity

Smartphone manufacturers sometimes protect the sometimes very sensitive displays of their devices with Gorilla Glass protective glass. But even in the umpteenth generation, scratches and major damage still occur from time to time. Apple apparently wants to change this. An approved patent that has now come to light suggests that the tech giant from the USA is working on a new display that is not only intended to be foldable.

It should also have a special layer with self-healing powers. According to a report by Gizmodo, this coating is supposed to quickly fill any scratches that may occur and thus repair them fully automatically. When it comes to the folding mechanism, however, the manufacturer seems to be taking a familiar approach. The iPhone in question will probably come with a special flexible cover that can withstand the folding process without breaking.

Two housing parts are in turn held together with a hinge. However, it also seems clear that we will probably not only see this technology in an iPhone. After all, Apple has explicitly stated in the patent that patent protection is not limited to smartphones. MacBook and iPad could therefore also come with a corresponding display in the future.

Market launch is uncertain

While Apple’s fanbase is naturally jumping for joy and is already eagerly awaiting the new iPhone with a self-healing, foldable display, industry experts are still cautious. After all, it is well known that patent applications do not necessarily mean that the manufacturer in question will actually implement the technology. This is particularly evident with Apple.

Rather, this is a safeguard for the future. Nevertheless, there are increasing indications that an iPhone with a foldable display could soon be available. After all, the patent that has now been filed is not the first to involve this technology. So we can only take the spectator’s seat and wait and see what Apple is planning behind the back doors.
