iPhone: The alarm clock goes on strike for some users

Anyone who owns an iPhone certainly uses it as an alarm clock from time to time. However, the whole thing is apparently not all that reliable at the moment. Some owners of Apple smartphones have reported that the preset alarm clock does not ring at all. The tech company has now announced a solution to the problem.

Problem with the iPhone known since December 2023

People have been using an alarm clock for many years to make sure they don’t get up too late in the morning. However, with the triumph of smartphones, classic analog or digital alarm clocks have increasingly disappeared from bedside tables around the world. Of course, the iPhone also offers the option of acting as an alarm clock. However, there is apparently a problem with this function that some users suffer from.

The smartphone simply goes silent at the preset alarm time. It has been suspected since December 2023 that the problem is not an isolated incident, but may be due to a fault in the iPhone. After Apple failed to comment on the issue for many weeks, the tech giant has now officially acknowledged the problem.

Various models were affected by the bug. For this reason, it quickly became clear that it could not be a hardware error. Rather, you have to look at the time at which the error occurred. Apple released its latest operating system, iOS 17, in the fall of 2023. The close timing suggests that it must have something to do with the software.

Apple admits error

After weeks of silence, Apple has now responded. In an interview with Joanna Stern from the Wall Street Journal, the tech company stated that they had finally found out what was behind the bug on the iPhone. They are now working hard behind the scenes to find a solution to the annoying problem. We do not yet know exactly what the cause is.

However, experts assume that the iOS attention features could be behind it. These automatically track user behavior, for example by keeping the display switched on when the user looks at it. In the problem cases described, the affected devices may incorrectly assume that someone has been looking at the display.
