Acer today introduced four new Chromebooks that are supposed to convince with plenty of power in use at work, school or in university routine. They are equipped with new processors and offer popular features like Wi-Fi 6 or special features especially for video conferencing.
Acer Chromebook Spin 514: Flexible convertible for on the go
New in the portfolio is the 14-inch (35.6 cm) convertible Acer Chromebook Spin 514. They rely on a Full HD display and are supposed to combine maximum performance for productive multitasking and video conferencing with flexible use. Powered by 11th-generation Intel Core i7 processors, the new Chromebooks are performance-oriented and run almost silently thanks to the fanless design.
The Chromebook’s 35.6 cm IPS display offers a screen-to-body ratio of 84 percent with its narrow edges. During video conferences, the Full HD MIPI webcam with Blue Glass filter ensures sharp and clear images with less light reflections. The device’s two upward-facing speakers flank the keyboard and combine with the two microphones with noise-canceling technology to provide excellent sound. In addition, the new Chromebooks feature DTS Audio for surround sound and an integrated Smart Amplifier for clear audio even at high volumes.
The new Chromebook Spin 514 and Chromebook Spin Enterprise 514 feature a flexible design that can be used in four different work modes (laptop, tablet, tent and display modes). The reinforced design with aluminum covers on the top and bottom is certified according to MIL-STD 810H2 and turns out particularly robust. In addition, the Chromebook features reliable Intel WiFi 6 (Gig+), a backlit keyboard, a Corning Gorilla Glass touchpad, and offers two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports for connecting many other devices.
Acer Chromebook 515 with 15.6-inch display
The Acer Chromebook 515 turns out to be somewhat larger. Here, the manufacturer relies on a 39.6 cm (15.6 inch) IPS display. It is equipped with processors up to Intel Core i7 of the 11th generation and Intel Iris Xe graphics, up to 512 GB PCIe NVMe memory and up to 16 GB working memory, which wake up the Chromebook from sleep mode in less than a second.
Optionally, the Full HD display is even available with multi-touch functionality. Two microphones ensure that the user’s voice can be clearly understood in video conferences, while integrated DTS Audio and Smart Amplifier provide high-quality sound here as well. Additionally, a webcam cover protects privacy when the video conference is over.
The chassis top of the Chromebook 515 is made of aluminum and is also certified to U.S. Military Standard 810H2. Again, the glass touchpad features Corning Gorilla Glass for smooth and precise typing, swiping, and scrolling, while a number pad enhances the backlit keyboard.
In terms of connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 is offered, as well as ports for HDMI and microSD, and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports (one on each side) for data transfers, power, and sharing video and audio on external displays.
Acer Chromebook 514: Premium Design
The new Acer Chromebook 514 (model: CB514-2H/T) features an ultraportable design with cutting-edge technology for efficient and responsive performance. An octa-core MediaTek Kompanio 828 processor is used here, which stands out especially for its all-day battery life of up to 15 hours. It can be charged to 50 percent in just 30 minutes thanks to Fast Charge.
The slim device weighs just 1.3 kg and has an overall height of only 16.85 mm. The sleek aluminum cover provides protection from damage, while the Corning Gorilla Glass touchpad allows for smooth navigation. The Chromebook’s matte 35.6 cm (14-inch) display relies on extra-thin bezels so that content is completely in focus, while additional features like DTS Audio, a backlit keyboard, and USB Type-C ports make the Acer Chromebook 514 a true all-rounder.
Acer Chromebook Spin 314: With OceanGlass touchpad
The second new convertible goes by the name of Acer Chromebook Spin 314 (model: CP314-1H/N) and features an eco-friendly OceanGlass touchpad made entirely from plastic waste recycled into a glass-like texture to provide smooth and responsive tactile feedback.
With the latest Intel processors, up to 14-inch (35.6 cm) Full HD IPS touchscreen display4, only 6 mm thin bezel and 10 hours of battery life, it becomes an attractive choice for students.
There is also a lot on offer in terms of ports: A USB 3.2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 TypeA ports, an HDMI port, and a microSD slot, as well as Wi-Fi 6and 2×2 MU-MIMO technology for faster data transfers are available.
Pricing and Availability
All new Acer Chromebooks will be available soon. The Acer Chromebook 515 (CB515-1W/T) will kick things off in Q4 2021 at an MSRP starting at 649 euros. All other devices will follow in Q1 2022, here the MSRPs look like this:
