Amazon brings Zoom to Fire TV Cube
Zoom video conferencing software gained rapid popularity during the pandemic and is now one of the world’s most widely used tools in this area. Amazon is now responding by enabling Zoom video calls on the second-generation Fire TV Cube.
Few prerequisites
However, the use of Zoom on the device does not require many prerequisites. Besides up-to-date firmware, all that is needed is a webcam, which must be connected to the device. The webcam must support USB Video Class and offer a resolution of at least 720p at 30 frames per second. However, Amazon recommends going beyond these minimum standards and using a device with a resolution of 1080p and a field of view of 60 to 90 degrees. 4K models, on the other hand, are not recommended. Once a webcam has been selected and connected, only the Zoom app needs to be downloaded, after which video conferences can also run via the TV, and all Zoom functions are available.
Zoom is controlled via the voice remote control, but not via direct voice control. This is different in the USA, where Zoom can also be accessed via the Alexa voice assistant program. Passwords and meeting IDs can also be dictated there, whereas they have to be entered manually here.
From now on
The service is available immediately in both the US and here in Germany.
