Apple: AirPods Gen 3 and new colors for HomePod mini

Apple introduced the AirPods Gen 3 at the Apple Unleashed launch event. Among other things, the in-ear headphones rely on Spatial Audio and can be charged via MagSafe. In addition, the HomePod mini shines in new splendor thanks to additional color schemes.

Apple AirPods Gen 3: The features

As expected, Apple announced the 3rd generation AirPods in-ear headphones, which have inherited some features from the AirPods Pro. Especially in terms of design, because the Gen 3 also relies on shortened pins. Silicone ear tips are also not used.

Technically, the new AirPods rely on low-distortion drivers that are supposed to convince with strong sound. In addition, the Adaptive EQ already known from the Pro model is used. At the same time, the battery life has been significantly improved, according to Apple. Six hours of uninterrupted music playback are said to be possible, and in combination with the charging egg, another 30 hours of runtime are added to the AirPods 3.

The same can now be charged via cable, wirelessly and finally also with MagSafe. A charging time of five minutes is supposed to supply the new AirPods with energy for one hour of playback. In addition, the AirPods Gen 3 have a wear detection feature that automatically pauses playback when an earbud is removed from the ear.

The sweat- and water-resistant True Wireless earbuds also support Spatial Audio, which is 3D audio with dynamic head movement detection for simulated surround sound.

HomePod mini and Apple Music get update

Apple’s Siri-powered smart speaker, HomePod mini, is also coming in new colorways. In addition to the familiar white and gray variants, the speaker will henceforth also be offered in yellow, orange and blue.

Apple Music gets new, intelligent playlists. There is also a Voice Plan that is controlled exclusively via Siri. In return, the subscription comes at a lower price of 4.99 euros per month.

Pricing and Availability

Apple AirPods Gen 3 will be available in Germany from October 26 at a price of 199.00 euros. The HomePod mini in new colors is scheduled to be available in November 2021 at a price of 99.00 euros.
