Apple files patent for AirPods with display

Apple has once again applied for a patent. And that has the tech community’s heads spinning again. This time, the tech company apparently has big plans for its popular AirPods. Could the successful true wireless in-ears soon come with an integrated display?

AirPods case with display in future?

In 2024, Apple is always making headlines with interesting patent applications. In February 2024, for example, it was made public that the tech company was apparently working on a smart ring and had filed a corresponding patent. Another patent involving the development of an iMac made of glass did not escape the public’s attention either.

Now the Californians have filed another patent. This time, the focus is on the AirPods. Or rather their case. Apple has apparently patented the idea of giving the charging and storage case its own small display. This should then primarily serve as an operating aid, enabling music to be started, stopped and fast-forwarded, for example.

Smart case with Siri on board?

Of course, AI also plays a role in the latest patent. Apple’s concept apparently envisages that the case can also be controlled with the help of a voice assistant. In view of the fact that the case itself is to have AI features, it appears to be a gadget that may also be able to work independently of the iPhone and other Apple devices.

The whole thing could be particularly interesting for athletes. After all, always having to carry your iPhone around with you when jogging or doing other sporting activities can be quite annoying. Since the AirPods case is always with you anyway as a place to store the wireless headphones, the idea really sounds like one that Apple fans could get behind.

However, as Apple has only registered the idea protection for the new case for AirPods, hopes should not be too high. After all, it is currently just an idea. The company’s history has shown that Apple likes to protect numerous ideas in order to keep many doors open for possible technical innovations in the future.
