There is already talk within the company that iOS 18 is the tech company’s biggest software update to date. This is according to a report from Bloomberg. Among other things, he assumes that iOS 18 will apparently primarily bring new AI features to Apple devices. This could be seen as a response to Samsung’s Galaxy AI. But there should also be more adaptability. The Californian company also feels compelled to make some changes in order to comply with the latest EU regulations. For example, in future it should also be possible to delete in-house apps such as the Safari browser.

Adjustments currently only via detours

Strictly speaking, the iPhone home screen can already be customized. However, you have to take a few detours, as Apple does not (yet) provide for this. You can create shortcuts that appear as app icons on the home screen. You can then make the icons invisible by simply selecting the same color as the background. Of course, you have to do without multi-faceted wallpapers. Otherwise the whole thing won’t work. It is therefore all the more commendable that Apple is now bringing more customizability to its home screen.

In a way, this is a common thread running through the tech company’s corporate strategy. After all, the company is currently gradually shedding its bad reputation when it comes to customizability. Android users in particular regularly decided against an iPhone due to the rather limited customization options. However, Apple has made significant improvements here with the latest updates. IOS 18 is likely to represent a further step towards more customizability and flexibility.
