With the Apple iPad 10, the manufacturer has introduced a new edition of its most affordable entry-level tablet. It comes in four colors, offers a new design and is connected via USB Type-C. However, a questionable dongle and an increased price are annoying.

The Apple iPad 10 in detail
The design of the new Apple iPad 10 closely resembles the current iPad Air and also relies on flat edges and thinner screen edges. That was also necessary, after all, the entry-level model in particular looked old-fashioned compared to the other models.
However, this also means that the home button is now gone. Touch ID for unlocking via fingerprint is now located in the power button. The A13 chip is also finally retired, because the new iPad of the 10th generation is now (at least) equipped with the A14 Bionic with a 6-core CPU, 4-core graphics unit and 16-core Neural Engine.
There are also improvements in the display. It now measures 10.9 inches (compared to 10.2 inches on the predecessor) and has a higher resolution of 2360 x 1640 pixels and 264 ppi. It is also a True Tone display that gets up to 500 nits bright. However, the refresh rate of 60 hertz is retained.
USB-C and strange Apple Pencil support
Apple does not provide any information about the amount of installed working memory, but the internal storage is again very tight at 64 GB. Alternatively, the Apple iPad 10 is also available with 256 GB of storage, as well as a Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular model. In addition, the new entry-level iPad now has a USB-C port that can be used to charge the device and connect a 4K monitor.
The Apple Pencil support, however, is a bit curious: It still only supports the 1st generation pencil, which only has a Lightning port. However, you need a corresponding dongle to be able to use and charge it with the iPad 10. The USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter costs an additional 10.00 Euros.
Cameras and battery
Otherwise, the Apple iPad 10 also relies on new cameras. On the front, you install a 12 MP landscape ultra-wide-angle camera with 122° field of view, an aperture of f/2.4 and Smart HDR 10, which allows 1080p HD video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps.
On the rear, a 12 MP wide-angle camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture, 5x digital zoom, and autofocus is used to record videos in maximum 4K at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps. Apple is once again silent on the battery size and runtime, and the operating system used is iPad OS 16.
Pricing and Availability
The new Apple iPad 10 comes in blue, rose, silver and yellow and is available for pre-order now from Apple. It will be available starting October 26. As with the iPhone 14 models, however, the price has risen mightily.
The basic features with 64 GB of system storage and Wi-Fi start at 579.00 Euros. The 256 GB storage costs 779.00 Euros and the 5G modem costs another 200 Euros, so you end up with 979.00 Euros.
