Archos Diamond: New Smartphone Unveiled

At MWC 2019, Archos will present the latest Diamond smartphone as well as a number of entry-level models. The new device combines many trends of today’s smartphones. The following lines should show what it has to offer.

The device is initially equipped with a 6.39 inch AMOLED display in 19.5:9 format. In the spirit of its time, the display occupies more than 90 percent of the front of the device. The resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels is also impressive. According to the manufacturer, the glass is protected from environmental influences by lamination and heat-reinforced production. Also in keeping with the spirit of the times, the device has a rather unusual camera whose construction serves to make the display borderless – it is a pop-up camera. The device can be unlocked using the fingerprint scanner integrated into the large display.

The pop-up camera on the front is 8 megapixels strong and was manufactured by Samsung. It is equipped with an f/2.0 aperture and offers numerous different modes. In addition to the normal photo mode, a video mode, an AI mode, an HD mode and a portrait mode are also available. On the back, the device has a dual camera consisting of a 16 MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture from Sony and a 5 MP lens from Samsung. The device recognizes people recorded with the camera as well as buildings and squares.

The device is driven by a processor from MediaTek. This is the “Helio P70” – an Octa Core processor that allows applications based on artificial intelligence. 4 GB of RAM are at his side. The smartphone’s internal memory is around 128 GB and can be expanded by up to 1 TB using a microSD card.

The Diamond smartphone also has a 3,400 mAh rechargeable battery, which can be charged not only via USB-C ports, but also via induction. The device should be fully charged within one and a half hours.

It is also equipped with LTE, WLAN interface, WIFI 5G, USB-C port and Bluetooth 4.2. The device’s NFC interface is compatible with Google Pay, so the smartphone can be used for digital payment transactions.

The new smartphone will be available from May at a retail price of around 370 euros.
