Asus ROG Strix SQ7: 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD for desktop PCs, laptops and PlayStation 5

We already introduced the new PCIe Gen 4X4 SSD Asus ROG Strix SQ7 to you a good month ago. However, some specifications were still unclear at that time. That has now changed, as the M.2 SSD for desktop PCs, laptops and PlayStation 5 is now available.

The new PCIe Gen 4X4 SSD Asus ROG Strix SQ7 has some mighty fire under its butt. Here, Asus relies on the 12nm E18 controller from Phison and also offers DRAM buffering, a large SLC cache and low-density parity check (LDPC).

As a result, the SSD in M.2 2280 form factor realizes speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s read and up to 6,000 MB/s write. “That’s twice as fast as standard PCIe 3.0 SSDs and up to 13 times faster than SATA SSDs,” the manufacturer writes in the announcement.

Designed for high security and accelerated gaming, the Strix SQ7 offers extensive hardware encryption and software solutions, as well as comprehensive compatibility with PCs and PlayStation 5, so it goes without saying that Asus is targeting gaming enthusiasts.

Hardware encryption and security in focus

The Strix SQ7 complies with numerous hardware encryption standards, including the TCG Opal specification, IEEE 1667 protocol, and AES 256-bit disk and data encryption. These hardware-based solutions ensure fast and efficient security without compromising CPU performance.

It includes NTI Backup Now EZ software to protect digital data from malicious virus attacks and hardware failures. There’s even a data recovery feature to restore accidentally deleted files.

You can also view important information about the Asus ROG Strix SQ7 SSD via the ROG SSD Dashboard. This includes drive temperature, memory usage, device status and much more. The SSD is compatible with all common operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows (from version 7), Mac OS (from X 10.16 or higher and Catalina or higher) and Chrome OS, as well as the PlayStation 5 console.

Price and Availability

The new Asus ROG Strix SQ7 Gen4 SSD is currently offered exclusively with a storage capacity of 1 TB, as suspected. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 199 Euros. However, first retailers, such as Amazon, already list the M.2 SSD cheaper, starting at 187.45 Euros. More information can be found on the manufacturer’s product website.
