Asus Zenfone 6: Smartphone With Snap Camera Introduced
The Taiwanese company Asus has introduced its new smartphone flagship Zenfone 6, which is particularly striking due to the unusually built-in dual camera. Depending on the equipment the smartphone costs between 499 Euro and 599 Euro. The device can be ordered immediately in the official Asus Onlineshop.
Instead of installing a separate front and main camera as usual, the Asus Zenfone 6 only has a rear dual camera, which is swivelled 180 degrees forward from an engine to the user when Selfie mode is activated. The main camera is equipped with a Sony 48 megapixel camera sensor whose photos have a resolution of 12 megapixels by default due to pixel binning. The pixel binning technology makes it possible to achieve a high light yield despite the small sensor. In addition, a wide-angle lens with a 13-megapixel sensor is installed.
If desired, the swivelling mechanism can also be adjusted manually to take photos in various perspectives. When filming, it is also possible to “capture” an object, which is then automatically held in focus by the motor when the camera is panned.
The other components of the smartphone also belong in the luxury class. Sony uses a 6.4-inch IPS display with 2,340 x 1,080 pixel resolution. As there is no front camera, the smartphone does not need a notch and has a very narrow frame. The main memory is 6 or 8 GByte, depending on the version. As System-on-a-Chip (SoC) Qualcomms current Snapdragon 855 is used in combination with an Adreno 640 GPU. The internal memory is between 64 and 256 GB.
There is also a jack for headphones and a freely configurable hardware button on the right. Asus has dispensed with an in-display fingerprint sensor; instead, the sensor is located on the back of the smartphone.

The operating system used is Android 9 Pie, which Asus has added the ZenUI 6 interface to. The 5,000 mAh battery should be sufficient for 24 hours of video playback, 21 hours of Internet use or 33 days of standby.
In Germany only the version with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB Flash memory for 560 Euro is offered at the beginning. The other equipment variants will also be available later. Compared to devices from Samsung and Huawei, the price for the installed hardware is relatively low. The mobile phone will be delivered in this country from 25 May. The colors “Twilight Silver” and “Midnight Black” are available.
