The rumors that Spotify is launching a premium subscription for hi-fi quality content have intensified in recent years. Now the launch seems to be imminent. A new subscription option for lossless music streaming may await us this year.

When it comes to music streaming, Spotify has been the market leader for years. But there is one discipline where some of its competitors are ahead – playback quality. According to a report by Bloomberg, this will soon come to an end. The news portal cites insider news and reports that the HiFi option is to be launched this year as a further subscription option.

But the whole thing comes at a price. After all, the streaming service is not simply giving away the extra quality. Instead, customers have to be prepared to pay a fairly high subscription price. Spotify wants to keep the barriers to using the HiFi option quite low. After all, it is not intended to be a stand-alone subscription.

Instead, Premium users can simply book the whole thing in addition. According to Bloomberg, those who opt for the extension will not only be offered better music quality. Spotify also wants to expand the range of functions a little. Among other things, this includes new functions in connection with playlists.

HiFi quality will be expensive

One of the most exciting questions is certainly the additional costs that interested parties will have to be prepared for. Here too, Bloomberg has received information from the insider. The upgrade is expected to lead to an average 40 percent increase in the subscription price. How expensive it will be depends on the existing subscription.

Spotify has thus once again found a vehicle to squeeze more money out of its subscribers. Of course, we don’t really want to criticize the whole thing. After all, it is a voluntary upgrade that customers do not have to take out. It’s certainly better than the planned increases in subscription costs that were leaked in April 2024.
