At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2019, Gigabyte presented its first gaming monitor, which is marketed under the Aorus Group’s gaming label, as a company premiere. The IPS display offers WQHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), 144 Hz as well as DisplayHDR 400 and AMD FreeSync support.
Active Noise Cancelling as Unique Feature
Gigabyte has integrated “Active Noise Cancelling” into the Aorus AD27QD as a unique selling point against the big competition on the gaming market. The monitor has three microphones on the front, which, when a headset is connected to the microphone input of the monitor, help to filter out annoying ambient noise. To configure the function, the monitor has Gigabyte software to control the other gaming options. The joystick for controlling the OSD, which is also available on the screen, is therefore practically superfluous, as all settings can be made directly via the software.
According to various trade visitors at CES, noise suppression was able to effectively suppress disturbing ambient noise such as background music even at the relatively noisy trade fair, thus ensuring that the user’s voice is always clearly understood. According to Gigabyte, this function works best with monotonous background noise.
RGB Illumination
Like almost every gaming product, the Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD has a freely configurable RGB lighting on the back and on the stand.
In addition, the stand, which allows the height and inclination to be adjusted, has a carrying handle for transport to the next LAN party. The monitor also offers a pivot function. Connections include two HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, a microphone input for noise reduction, and two USB 3.0 ports.
The Innolux IPS panel does not have a 10-bit colour depth as originally assumed, but only 8 bits. Although it is a gaming monitor, the Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD has features such as Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture, which are otherwise found almost exclusively in professional office monitors. The response time of 1 ms also makes the monitor a good choice for gamers.
The introductory price of the monitor is 599 dollars in the USA, where the monitor will be released at the end of January. When and at what price the monitor is available in Germany Gigabyte has not yet announced at the fair.
