CES 2019 – Lenovo Presents Three New Legion Gaming Notebooks

Lenovo presented a series of new gaming laptops at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where the unusually positioned hinge is particularly noticeable, which was not installed at the rear edge as usual, but at the front of the laptop. Despite the very thin display frame, Lenovo was able to integrate a cooling system for the strong gaming components. In addition, most of the ports are also located on the back, instead of on both sides as usual. The design of the laptops is rather simple compared to the gaming devices of the competition.

The entry-level model Legion Y540 is offered exclusively as a 15-inch variant, while the Y740 also comes with a version with a 17.3-inch display. The available components of the three new laptops are almost identical. For the processors, you can choose between the Intel Core i7-8750H (6 cores, 2.20 GHz clock, 4.10 GHz turbo) and the Core i5-8300H (4 cores, 2.30 GHz clock, 4.00 GHz turbo). The maximum memory size is 32 GByte. With the SSDs buyers can choose between 128, 256 or 512 GByte, additionally an HDD with 1 or 2 TB is installed. With the more expensive Y740 laptops, the SSD is connected via NVMe.

The dedicated graphics cards come from Nvidia. All models can be equipped with a Geforce RTX 2060 or RTX 2070 Max-Q. The 17-inch model can also be equipped with an RTX 2080 Max-Q. The display offers full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) for all versions. The low-cost Y540 comes with 60 Hz as standard, 144 Hz is also possible at an extra charge. The Y740 models always have 144 Hz and Nvidia G-Sync.

There are further differences between the two series in the RGB lighting. With the Y540 only the keyboard can be illuminated in one colour, with the Y740 models there is a controllable illumination of the fans, the keyboard and other points.

The Lenovo Y540 will be available in the USA from May 2019. The basic version with the Intel Core i5 8300H, 8 GB RAM and the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 is available for 930 dollars. The release date and prices for Germany are not yet known.

The 15.6-inch Lenovo Y740 will also be available in Germany from the beginning of February. At a base price of 1,700 euros, customers will receive an Intel i5 8300H, 8 GB RAM and the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060. The 17.3-inch version with the same components will also be available in Germany for 2000 euros at the beginning of February.
