CES 2022: Bugatti’s first e-vehicle is a scooter

The floor of CES 2022 made it clear that electromobility has fully arrived in the tech world. While car manufacturers used to rely exclusively on trade shows like the International Motor Show (IAA), they now take advantage of the publicity of tech shows a la CES. Bugatti was also in on the action. However, unlike Mercedes, BMW & Co. the French noble brand did not present an electric vehicle on four wheels. Instead, the premium manufacturer surprised everyone with an e-scooter.

First E-Bugatti comes on two wheels

Who would have thought. While big-name automakers were throwing around impressive stats around horsepower, range and torque of their upcoming electric cars at CES 2022, one company remained surprisingly low-key. Bugatti, of all companies, did not present a wickedly expensive electric car at its electric premiere. Instead, the public was treated to an e-scooter. In developing its first own scooter with an electric motor, the French company enlisted the help of an overseas expert, Bytech. Unlike Bugatti’s vehicles, where you still have to put 2.7 million euros on the table for the cheapest model, the e-scooter is intended for the masses.

It stops at around 29 km/h

The 1,500-hp Bugatti Chiron manages a top speed of 420 km/h. Since one expects naturally also a certain speed from the E-Bugatti on two wheels. If this is also the case for you, we unfortunately have to disappoint you. A maximum of approx. 29 km/h is supposed to be possible on the e-scooter. At its heart is an electric motor with 700 watts of power. However, the speed should be uninteresting for e-scooter friends in our climes anyway. After all, you’re only allowed to drive a maximum of 20 km/h on electrically powered scooters in Germany anyway. Thanks to a 360 Wh battery, you should be able to cover a distance of about 35 km with the scooter.

Price and availability

With a weight of about 16 kg, Bugatti’s chic e-scooter should be comfortable to carry from A to B. However, anyone who has taken a liking to the electric Bugatti will probably have to be patient for a while yet. After all, the French company has not yet commented on price or release.
