Lenovo presents ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga

At CES 2019, Lenovo unveiled its latest premium business notebooks, the “ThinkPad X1 Carbon” and “ThinkPad X1 Yoga”, among others.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon: The seventh generation

The seventh generation of the Carbon ThinkPad is supposed to look even better on the outside than the predecessor version, which is particularly noticeable in the model with the top equipment. Lenovo not only relies on the well-known carbon finish, but also on an optional cover with visible carbon fibres.

In addition, the device also differs from the previous version in weight and thickness. It is not only thinner, but also lighter. The 14 inch notebook weighs only 1.08 kilograms and is offensively promoted by the manufacturer as “the lightest commercial 14 inch notebook in the world”.

It is powered by an eighth-generation Intel processor with up to 16 GB of RAM, depending on the version. The internal SSD memory, however, is up to 2 TB large.

The display is available in three different versions. In addition to a Full HD screen, a 4K display and a low-power display with Full HD resolution can be offered. The latter display is intended to save energy and thus ensure a particularly long battery life.

The Privacy Guard function is new in every case. The viewing angle stability can be turned off manually, which protects the displayed content from prying eyes from the side. Especially people who want to work with their ThinkPad in public spaces will benefit from this feature. In addition, the new ThinkPad Privacy Alert feature is used, which warns the user when other people are looking at the screen. The viewing angle stability is automatically deactivated in this case. All models are also equipped with an aperture to cover the webcam.

The equipment is rounded off with a 51 Wh battery that should last up to fifteen hours, two USB A ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one HDMI port and one headphone port.

The device is expected to be launched in the middle of the year and will cost 1,710 US dollars in the standard version in the United States.

Thinkpad X1 Yoga: The Fourth Generation

The “X1 Yoga” has been reworked much more than the Carbon Thinkpad. The case is now completely made of aluminium, while the previous model was still made of a carbon fibre hybrid material. The new material makes the entire unit appear more compact. It is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. In the 14-inch version, the display edges could also be reduced in size.

The device is equipped with an eighth generation Intel processor, up to 16 GB RAM and up to 2 TB SSD memory. The Yoga Thinkpad also has a choice of several display variants. It will also be launched in the middle of the year. The US price for the basic model will be 1,930 US dollars.
