CES 2022: Samsung unveils new TV models for 2022

Just before the start of CES 2022 and ahead of its own keynote on January 04, Samsung has revealed its new TV lineup for 2022. The latest Micro LED, Neo QLED and Lifestyle TVs offer better picture and sound quality, more screen size options, personalizable accessories and an improved user interface compared to previous models.

Samsung Neo QLED: Micro LED TV also available in 89 inches

Thanks to its 25 million micrometer-sized LEDs that generate light and color on their own, creating an immersive experience with impressive depth, lifelike colors and plenty of clarity and contrast, the new Samsung Neo QLED Micro LED TVs offer stunning picture quality.

As part of CES in Las Vegas, the technology company will unveil the TVs in three different sizes. Besides the gigantic 110-inch and 101-inch screen diagonals, the TV will also appear with 89 inches.

However, this will not be cheap, even in the case of the “small” model, since at least 129,999 euros are currently due for the already available variants (for the 99-inch micro LED TV). As HDTVTest reports from a pre-release briefing, the maximum brightness is 2,000 cd/m².

In addition to the updates to the hardware, the Micro LED 2022 offers 20-bit grayscale depth to reproduce image details very accurately. With over 1 million levels of brightness and color, they enable an immersive HDR experience. It also reproduces 100 percent of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut. The screen also occupies an impressive 99.99 percent of the case (screen-to-body ratio).

Dolby Atmos and other features

Dolby Atmos is integrated directly into TVs for the first time, delivering a powerful, immersive audio experience with upper, side and lower channel speakers for engaging multi-dimensional sound.

This is joined by special application modes, such as Art Mode, thanks to which favorite works of art or digital photos can be played back. The MICRO LED 2022 also features two exclusive media artworks by renowned artist and designer Refik Anadol.

Multi View also allows content from four different sources to be viewed simultaneously – from one or all four HDMI ports and in near pristine 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second.

Samsung Neo QLED with Neo Quantum processor

Exciting improvements also await you in Samsung’s Neo QLED models. Thanks to the new Neo Quantum processor and advancements in picture and sound quality, the Neo QLED 2022 should deliver nearly pristine images and impressive acoustics.

Compared to previous models, the latest Neo Quantum processor offers improved contrast mapping with the backlight (Back-Light Unit) and increases the brightness level from 12 to 14 bits for better control of the light sources (Quantum Mini LEDs). This allows the unit to control brightness in 16,384 levels, four times the amount compared to the current model.

The new Shape Adaptive Light technology uses the processor to analyze lines, shapes and surfaces to control the shape of the light from the Quantum Mini LEDs, adjusting the brightness and precision of all shapes on the screen. The Samsung TV 2022 Neo QLED also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence algorithm for picture quality. It ensures a more realistic picture, as the algorithm detects an object on the screen against its background and can thus create a sense of depth. Thanks to EyeComfort mode, the screen’s brightness and hue are also automatically adjusted thanks to a built-in light sensor.

The new Neo QLED TVs with the type designation “B” at the end of the name are to be offered in the 8K and 4K segments. Also exciting for gamers is that the frame rate could be increased from 120 Hz to a maximum of 144 Hz. However, the final details will probably only await us at the market launch.

Strong Sound

Building on OTS (Object Tracking Sound), where sound moves through space along with the object on the screen, the 2022 products will feature OTS Pro. OTS Pro is a high-performance, upward-facing surround speaker.

It also supports Dolby Atmos thanks to advanced top-channel speakers. With multi-channel speakers distributed throughout the TV, the Neo QLED thus delivers an impressive dynamic sound experience.

Samsung TV 2022: The lifestyle models Frame, Serif & Sero

Samsung’s 2022 lifestyle TVs combine design and technology. The Frame, The Serif and The Sero are now equipped with a matte display that provides anti-glare, anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint properties. To that end, the new matte display received three verifications from UL (Underwriter Laboratories) as “Reflection Glare Free,” “Discomfort Glare Free” and “Disability Glare Free.”

• The Frame offers a realistic art display, thanks to anti-glare and low-reflection panel technology with the advanced matte display. It is available in sizes ranging from 32 inches to 85 inches.
• The Serif features a matte case that blends seamlessly with the matte display. With the addition of the 65-inch option, The Serif is now offered in sizes from 43″ to 65″.
• The Sero offers a new vertical multi-view feature that allows users to view different content on the top and bottom of the screen or search for information online while running a program in parallel.

The new Smart Hub and apps

Samsung’s 2022 Smart TVs feature a new Smart Hub that customizes content curation and search to users’ preferences. Without a long search, this is supposed to take you directly to the content that best suits you. The Smart Hub sidebar provides a seamless transition between the Media, Games (Gaming Hub) and Ambient categories.

• With Samsung Gaming Hub, gamers can jump in and play along with their favorite games faster via game streaming services. Through Samsung’s partnerships with major industry leaders such as NVIDIA GeForce Now, Stadia and Utomik, gamers also have access to a wide range of games.
• With the new “Watch Together” app, users can video chat with friends and family members while watching TV.
• NFT Platform: The “NFT Platform” application provides an intuitive, integrated platform for searching, buying and trading digital artwork across MICRO LED, Neo QLED and The Frame.

Moreover, thanks to Smart Calibration, fine-tuning the settings for satisfactory picture quality is no longer a problem. Basic Mode allows for quick and easy screen calibration within 30 seconds, while Professional Mode adjusts screens in about 10 minutes for near flawless picture quality.

The 2022 models also come with a host of accessories to personalize the user experience. The auto-rotating wall mount and stand allow vertical screen use like that of the Sero, and also enable mobile viewing by automatically rotating the screen.

Pricing and Availability

Samsung has not revealed pricing or availability for the new 2022 lineup of TVs. Presumably, more details will be announced during the CES keynote, with most information likely to follow shortly before the launch.
