Alienware surprises with some exciting gaming highlights at CES 2023. Among them is even a world record, which should please friends of ultra-thin gaming notebooks. With the Alienware x14 R2, Dell’s gaming brand is launching the thinnest gaming laptop in the world so far.
Alienware x14 R2 as the new record holder
With the Alienware x14 R2, Dell can sit directly on the throne of the thinnest gaming notebook. After all, the 14-inch notebook is still the record holder in the field of thin gaming behemoths with a thickness of 14.5 mm. That is quite impressive in view of the new, more powerful hardware.
Dell’s gaming division not only gives the update a better display, which should have a higher resolution and a better refresh rate. Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 series is supposed to provide up-to-date graphics power. An Intel CPU in the form of Raptor Lake-H is supposed to be used as the processor. Even though the new version of the Alienware x14 R2 is just as thin, the weight of the gaming notebook increases. While the predecessor still weighed 1.84 kg, the new edition is considerably heavier at 2.08 kg.

High-resolution display at 165 Hz
One highlight is certainly the 14-inch display, which comes in a 16:10 format. This resolves with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and offers a refresh rate of 165 Hz. An Intel Core i5-13420H or an Intel Core i7-13620H serves as the heart. You also have a choice for the graphics card. On the one hand, you can opt for the latest version of the GeForce RTX 3050. In contrast to the previous version, this now offers 6 GB of graphics memory. On the other hand, those who want to take the plunge into the latest generation from Nvidia can also choose laptop GPUs from the 4000 series.
When it comes to the memory, you can also sense that this is high-end gaming technology. Thus, up to 32 GB LPDDR5 RAM is possible. Sufficient flash memory is provided for thanks to the M.2 SSD, which can be up to 4 TB in size. Despite its compact dimensions, the Alienware x14 R2 is pleasingly connectable. Besides 1x USB-C (3.2 Gen 2), it offers 1x USB-A, 1x HDMI 2.1, 2x Thunderbolt 4 and even a microSD card reader. The battery offers a capacity of 80.5 Wh.
Prices and Availability
You won’t have to wait long for the Alienware x14 R2 to go on sale. It should still be ready in spring 2023. Alienware charges 1,799 US dollars for the entry-level version with the “weakest” components, which corresponds to just under 1,680 euros.
