ChatGPT: AI chatbot can now also be used without an account

Until now, anyone who wanted to use the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT from OpenAi had to register on the website and create an account. As the developers have now revealed in a blog post, ChatGPT 3.5 can now be used without the need for an account. However, other products from the manufacturer still require registration.

Use ChatGPT without an account

“As of today, ChatGPT can be used immediately without registering,” reads the OpenAI blog post. However, this update will be rolled out gradually, so some users may still see the ChatGPT registration website.

More than 100 million people in 185 countries use the AI chatbot to answer questions, write texts and much more. The aim of the new update is to make artificial intelligence accessible to anyone who wants to learn more about the tool’s capabilities, according to the statement.

Since its launch at the end of 2022, the use of ChatGPT has required an OpenAI account, yet the tool has become one of the fastest growing services ever. This is now coming to an end. Or… at least partially.

However, according to OpenAI, new content protection measures are in place that block unspecified prompts and generators in a wide range of categories. However, the provider did not provide any specific details.

Other AI tools and functions require an account

While ChatGPT can be used without access, an OpenAI account is still required for more advanced functions such as saving the chat history or the option to have requests read out by voice.

The same applies to the developer’s other AI tools such as the image generator Dall-E3, the voice cloning service Voice Engine or the video creation Sora, which can still only be used with an account and the corresponding subscription. The Plus subscription currently costs 20 US dollars per month to use all AI tools.

However, it remains to be seen what will happen with the powerful ChatGPT-5 upgrade, which is expected to launch in summer 2024 and introduce numerous new functions. These include, for example, an AI agent that will be able to complete tasks assigned to it completely autonomously and on its own authority.
