Formovie Xming Page One: Mini projector with Google TV

Projectors have undergone a real revolution in recent years. It is not just energy-saving LEDs, new image formats such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) and ever higher resolutions that play a major role. A lot has also changed in terms of the form factor. Whereas a few years ago projectors were exclusively large-format and heavy, nowadays there are much more compact models. These are sometimes so small that you can easily put them in your backpack. You can also do without annoying tangled cables. You don’t have to connect source devices to enjoy movies and series. After all, the most important streaming services are already on board thanks to WiFi. The Xming Page One is a real prime example of the mini projector’s favor.

Formovie Xming Page One: Cinema for the home

The Xming Page One comes from the manufacturer Formovie. This company has been around since 2016 and in the first few years after its foundation, Formovie was able to secure the trust of some well-known companies in the tech industry. For example, the relatively young company has received support from Xiaomi – one of the largest tech companies in the world. The project that Formovie is pursuing with its products sounds promising, but also ambitious.

The aim is to bring that cinema feeling into users’ living rooms with their own projectors. Many companies in this segment certainly promise this. But Formovie wants to combine this with an unbeatable price. The projectors for the entry-level market should not only offer a great picture experience. They also come with a full range of features. The Formovie Xming Page One clearly demonstrates this intention.

This is a handy LCD projector with a stylish design. However, the revolutionary aspect of this home cinema can only be discovered when you switch it on. After all, Formovie is not relying on Android OS here. Instead, Google TV 11 is used as the operating system – a first in the field of projector technology. This should ensure maximum ease of use and the best possible performance.

Formovie Xming Page One: Modern hardware

Under the hood of the 388 x 349 x 377 mm small and just under 2 kg light projector is amazingly modern technology. The LED projector should be able to conjure up image content on your screen in a standard resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD). Formovie even specifies a maximum resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. When it comes to the screen size, it is clear that the manufacturer wants to bring cinema into the consumer’s own four walls. After all, anything between 40 inches and 120 inches should be possible here. However, the 16:9 aspect ratio does not only offer a cinematic experience in dark lighting conditions.

The powerful LEDs of the mini projector are said to provide a brightness of 500 CVIA lumens (300 ANSI lumens), which should ensure a great movie experience even in bright environments. The manufacturer specifies a contrast ratio of 2000:1. A number of smart features are designed to get the best out of every image. Not only is autofocus used. You also get automatic omnidirectional image correction. There is also automatic obstacle detection so that the projector always promises you the best possible picture. The Formovie Xming Page One has 2 GB of RAM available.

You also have 16 GB of storage space for apps and files. WiFi connections are established via 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz. If you don’t want to stream but want to connect a classic source device, you can do so via the USB 2.0 port or the HDMI 2.1 connection with Audio Return Channel (ARC). There is also a headphone connection and a DC port. Wireless connections can be established via Bluetooth 5.0. Here you can also access the built-in 2x 5 watt speakers. Dolby Audio ensures good sound.

Secure your Early Bird discount now!

It all started with a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The first testers have now been sent their personal prototypes of the Formovie Xming Page One. Time will tell whether the investment of just under 277 euros was worth it for the supporters. What is certain is that, on paper, the mini projector has really great technical features. However, the option of wireless operation would have made the whole thing even more attractive. Unfortunately, Formovie does not have an integrated rechargeable battery. Supporters have definitely saved a lot compared to the original price. The manufacturer is calling for an RRP of 499.00 euros for its compact projector. But you don’t have to throw in the towel.
