Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch unveiled: All info, prices and release

Fossil has finally officially unveiled the new Gen 6 smartwatch. The WearOS smartwatch launches at the end of September with a new chip and many improvements. We have summarized all the info.

Fossil Gen 6 with Snapdragon Wear 4100+

Fossil has finally officially unveiled the new Gen 6 smartwatch. The new generation smartwatch comes with a host of improvements over the current Gen 5 on offer.

Under the hood is the new Snapdragon Wear 4100+, which is supposed to provide significantly more performance. It is supported by 1 GB of working memory and 8 GB of system memory, which should speak for a smooth operation of the smartwatch. Qualcomm speaks of a 30 percent higher performance compared with the predecessor.

The Gen 6 uses a 1.28-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 416 x 416 pixels and 326 ppi. The smartwatch is operated with a rotating button on the side, via touch control or with the user’s own voice. There are also two additional buttons on the right side that can be configured freely.

According to Fossil, the battery life has also been optimized. The Gen 6 is now supposed to last for around 24 hours. A low-power mode is also available as an option, which severely restricts most of the functions, but increases the battery runtime considerably. Thanks to Fast Charge, the Fossil Gen 6 can be charged by 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Fossil Gen 6 Smartwatch Technology and Hardware

In terms of connectivity, the new Fossil watch is also well positioned. Thanks to Bluetooth 5, it promises faster data transfer and up to four times the range. NFC is also on board, which enables mobile payments via Google Pay, among other things. In addition, Fossil has installed a SpO2 sensor for measuring the oxygen saturation in the blood for the first time. In addition, there are the obligatory sensors for sleep tracking, heart rate measurement, and GPS tracking. The integrated wellness app records all values and provides a detailed overview.

WearOS 3.0 not until next year

The only downside: the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch still comes with Google’s old WearOS operating system at release. The update to WearOS 3.0 is not expected to be completed until later in 2022 – so currently, the Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4 generation remains the only one already allowed to use the new OS.

The Fossil Gen 6 will be offered in two different sizes (42 mm and 44 mm), as well as in four different wristband color schemes. The choices include bracelets in stainless steel, brown leather, purple silicone, as well as a unique variant called “Green Camo Grosgrain”.
