GerdBox Guardmine: The safe for on the road

With the Guardmine, the Austrian company GerdBox has presented a safe for on the go that is supposed to offer real added value, especially on vacation or at the swimming lake. The safe is available in three variants that score points with different additional functions.

Safety needs on the go

According to the Austrian company, its product is a response to the high demand for security. Especially on vacation, people – according to GerdBox – did not want to take unnecessary risks and wanted to be able to rely on security. With the Guardmine, the company now wants to offer the right technical solution for this need.

Wallets, car keys and co can be stored and secured in the portable safe. When touched, the safe emits a loud sound that is supposed to send thieves fleeing. In addition, it is equipped with a GPS tracker and can thus be located at any time.

Additional features in two premium versions

In addition to the basic version, which functions exclusively as such a secured safe, GerdBox also offers two premium versions that are supposed to impress with additional functions. The Music version of the device, for example, can additionally be used as a Bluetooth speaker – and should thus be able to satisfy two vacation needs at once. However, it cannot replace a Soundboks, of course. The music version can be controlled via app. It is compatible with all common streaming services.

In addition, a Pro version is offered, which has a power bank and a camera in addition to the functions of the Music Box. The camera is supposed to ensure that the safe is monitored at all times. In addition, thefts are automatically filmed and the corresponding recordings are uploaded to a cloud to facilitate prosecution – and thus the recovery of one’s own valuables. The powerbank, on the other hand, is sufficient for charging smartphones, for example, but obviously not for operating larger devices, as is the case with a powerstation.

Years of work and future technology

The company is backed by engineer Marinus Bouwman, who has been working on the idea with his team since 2017. Work on the product and its marketing included an appearance on the television show “Two Minutes, Two Million.” The company was also able to raise a total of 300,000 euros via several financing rounds for the development of the safe for on-the-go.

The company particularly emphasizes that the device is based on Internet of Things technology – making it the world’s first portable safe with such a technological background.

Prices and availability

Initially, all three versions of the safe will be available through the company’s online store. They will be offered for 249, 299 and 349 euros, respectively.
