The Google Pixel 7 Pro (our review) and the Google Pixel 7 are two of the most impressive Android smartphones of the past year. However, reports are now piling up from users who have cracked or broken the camera glass and the cover on the back.
Google Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro: Problems with cracked camera glass
More and more users are reporting how the camera glass on the back or the cover over it of their Google Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro is cracked or completely broken. On Twitter, the reports of enraged users are increasing these days, where the camera module simply breaks even without falls or other problems.
The fractures are mostly circular, with some users, such as Pusha NFT, blaming the cold temperatures in the US and others having no idea how the problem came about. Different areas of both smartphones are affected – but always the glass covers behind the camera modules on the back.
“There is an error at the manufacturer and poor QA that leads to broken camera lenses,” writes user Alex Hatzenbuhler on Twitter and shows a picture of his smartphone. Apparently, the fractures are indeed related to the cold which also explains why the reports are piling up just these days.
Google does not see this as a warranty case
It is all the more annoying that Google does not see a warranty case in the obvious problem of the Google Pixel 7 & Pixel 7 Pro. Google’s support is well aware of the problem, but this broken camera glass is not covered by the warranty.
Instead, they offer to repair the smartphone for around 400 US dollars. The company now wants to take a closer look at the problem internally. We can only hope that this will happen quickly and that Google decides to cover the obvious production defect with the warranty after all. After all, the glass breakage might cause further consequential damage.
