Google Pixel Fold: All info about the foldable smartphone

Besides the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Tablet, the new foldable smartphone Google Pixel Fold was the star of Google I/O. The search engine giant wants to outdo Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 with the device and has a few real aces up its sleeve. We have summarized all Google Pixel Fold info and details.

The Google Pixel Fold in detail

With the Google Pixel Fold, the manufacturer is reaching for the foldable smartphone throne. This is already evident in the design, for example. When opened, the Fold is just 5.8 mm thin. When closed, the device is 12.1 mm thick and thus undercuts the Samsung model by 3.7 millimeters. This is partly possible because the hinge allows folding without a visible gap.

When opened, it measures 139.7 × 158.7 × 5.8 mm (height × width × depth), and 139.7 × 79.5 × 12.1 mm (height × width × depth) when closed. However, with a weight of 283 grams, the Pixel Fold is truly no lightweight.

The Foldable also shows itself strong in terms of displays: The outer display offers a screen diagonal of 5.8 inches with an aspect ratio of 17.4:9 and resolves in Full HD+ with 2,092 x 1,080 pixels. The OLED display offers a refresh rate of 20 Hz and gets up to 1,550 cd/m² brightness at its peak. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Inside, you have a 7.6-inch OLED display with 120 Hz, 1,450 cd/m² and a resolution of 2,208 x 1,840 pixels at your disposal, which is supposed to be secured by a protective plastic layer. The hinge is made of stainless steel and is supposed to be particularly robust, just like the aluminum frame.

The Pixel Fold is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 with a Titan M2 security chip. 12 GB LPDDR5 working memory and either 256 GB or 512 GB UFS 3.1 system storage are available.

The battery has a capacity of 4,821 mAh and is thus smaller than that of the Pixel 7 Pro (our review). In terms of runtime, this worries us a bit; Google once again only promises that the battery can “last more than 24 hours.”

Charging is done via USB Type-C using the separately available 30-watt power adapter. Google does not reveal whether the Pixel Fold can also exhaust this charging speed.

Powerful cameras in the Pixel Fold

A Pixel smartphone without strong cameras? Unthinkable. And that also applies to the Google Pixel Fold. On the back, there are a total of three cameras:

A 48-megapixel main camera with Quad PD as well as optical image stabilization and closed-loop autofocus and an aperture of f/1.7, which is thus faster than that of the Pixel 7 Pro. In addition, there is a 10.8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2) and a 10.8 megapixel telephoto camera that is also faster than the Pro model with an aperture of f/3.05, but has a resolution of about 37 megapixels lower.

The front-facing camera offers 9.5 megapixels at an aperture of f/22 with a fixed focus and 84° field of view, while the inner camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and f/2.0. Google’s typical picture modes like focus, hindsight or super resolution zoom are of course also offered.
