Google Pixel Tablet: That’s what’s in Google’s iPad competitor

Besides the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold, Google also announced its return to the tablet segment at I/O. The Google Pixel Tablet is a strong iPad competitor that can also be integrated into the smart home ecosystem as a smart display.

The Google Pixel Tablet in detail

The Google Pixel Tablet comes in white (Porcelain) or gray-green (Hazel) and features a 10.95-inch LC display that resolves at 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and gets up to 500 cd/m² brightness. The tablet measures 258 × 169 × 8.1 mm (width × height × depth) and weighs 493 grams.

Under the hood is Google’s Tensor G2, which is already known from the Pixel 7 series, including the Titan M2 security chip. In addition, there is 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1 system storage.

In addition to a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, the Pixel Tablet has a 4-pin accessory port where the tablet can be magnetically attached to a dock. Data transfer and charging is possible here.

In addition, the Pixel Tablet can be used as a smart display and can be used as a large version of the Google Home. The charging dock has its own speakers with 43.mm drivers and charges the tablet wirelessly with 15 watts.

Connectivity, battery life and cameras

Four speakers and three microphones find a place in the tablet and should provide plenty of fun media playback. There is also a fingerprint sensor in the power button, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 as connectivity standards.

Google promises to provide the tablet with security updates for five years. Android is of course used as the operating system. The battery has a capacity of 27 watt hours and is supposed to allow up to 12 hours of video streaming.

Videos can be recorded in 1080p with 30 frames per second at the front and back, but stabilization, Live HDR+ and more are only available for the front camera.

Price and availability

The Google Pixel Tablet is available for pre-order now from the Google Online Store. The tablet is priced at a recommended retail price of 679 Euros for the 128 GB variant. A doubling of the internal storage comes at an MSRP of 799 Euros. Delivery is scheduled for June 21, 2023.
