Homematic IP presents numerous smart home innovations

At Light Building 2024, manufacturer eQ-3 presented numerous innovations for the Homematic IP smart home ecosystem that will be released in the coming months. In addition to new smart devices, there will be a new control panel, a revised app and the integration of DoorBird video door stations.

Homematic IP: The smart home innovations at a glance

The Homematic IP smart home ecosystem from eQ-3, which has also included Lidl’s smart home devices since the end of 2022, continues to grow. At Light Building 2024 in Frankfurt, the company presented numerous innovations that will be released in the coming months.

The second quarter of 2024 will see the launch of a new Homematic IP motion detector with switching actuator for outdoor use, which monitors movement and automatically activates lighting, alarm sirens and other actuators in outdoor areas.

The motion detector has three sensors in a tiltable head, the sensitivity of which can be regulated separately. The aim is to achieve optimum area coverage and a range of up to 20 meters.

Further innovations will follow in the third quarter of 2024. These include the smart radiator thermostat – Flex, which is designed to reduce heating costs by up to 33 percent in conjunction with door and window contacts.

Three heating or cooling profiles can be configured with up to 13 changes per day, while smart functions such as automatic detection of open windows and an eco mode are designed to save additional energy. The smart radiator thermostat has an always-on e-paper display that can be read at any time.

At the same time, the Homematic IP Lightstrip Set with a length of two meters or one meter will be launched, which includes a controller and a power supply unit in addition to the light strip.

The flexible LED strip can be extended to up to ten meters and, in addition to pre-set light and colour moods and scenarios, has a “dynamic daylight” mode in which the lighting automatically adapts to daylight and human biological rhythms.

Homematic IP smart home center at the end of the year

At the end of 2024, the Homematic IP Home Control Unit will be followed by a new smart home control center that allows online and offline operation and features plug-in functionality and convenient app control. The EEBUS interface will also take care of energy monitoring and management.

Newcomers should benefit from a convenient learning assistant, while professionals can use an open plug-in interface that expands the possibilities for designing the smart home. In addition to the entire Homematic IP portfolio, the new control center supports more than 150 devices and partner solutions such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Philips HUE and surveillance cameras from EZVIZ.

A new, universal flush-mounted controller that can integrate motorized locks or door locks into the smart home will also be available from the fourth quarter of 2024. It will also be able to control code locks, RFID or fingerprint readers.

At the same time, DoorBird video door stations will be easily connected to the smart home ecosystem. The manufacturer’s front doors can then be controlled directly in the Homematic IP app via voice and video transmission. The door opening function will then also be possible while on the move.

The Homematic IP tubular motor, on the other hand, will have to wait until 2025. The product is aimed at specialist tradespeople and is primarily intended to be installed in roller blinds. This should enable quieter operation as well as quicker and easier installation.

New Homematic IP app coming

Controlling the smart home ecosystem via smartphone, smartwatch or tablet is set to get even better from Q3 2024, as the manufacturer is preparing a new Homematic IP app for Android and iOS.

This will offer greater convenience, a revised design and an optional dark mode. Homematic IP has not yet revealed prices or specific release dates for the new Smat Home products.
