Honor is back in the smartphone game and recently launched the Magic6 Pro, an impressive device that combines an elegant design with powerful cameras. Now the Honor Magic6 Ultimate has been unveiled in China, combining an unusual camera module with state-of-the-art technology.
The Honor Magic6 Ultimate in detail
Unsurprisingly, the new Honor Magic6 Ultimate is positioned even higher than the Pro model and consistently extends the strengths of the previous flagship. the 162.5 mm x 75.8 mm x 8.9 mm thick flagship smartphone weighs 227 grams and comes with a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display.
It offers a full HD resolution of 2,800 x 1,280 pixels and can adjust the refresh rate between 1 Hz and 120 Hz depending on the content. However, the display brightness is particularly impressive, which the manufacturer claims to be an incredible 5,000 nits when displaying HDR content. Typically, a very good 1,600 nits is achieved.
There are no compromises to be made under the hood either. This is ensured by the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU from Qualcomm with Adreno 750 GPU and 16 gigabytes of RAM, which Honor provides with either 512 GB or 1 TB of system memory.
5G is of course also on board, as are Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3 including Bluetooth LE and NFC. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the display and the front camera is also capable of 3D face recognition.
The battery of the Honor Magic6 Ultimate holds a whopping 5,600 mAh and can be charged with up to 80 watts via cable and up to 66 watts wirelessly. MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14 is used as the operating system.
Impressive cameras
That all sounds excellent, but the Honor Magic6 Ultimate is particularly impressive when it comes to the cameras. On the back, the smartphone has a 50 MP main camera with a variable aperture of f/1.4 – f/2.0 and optical image stabilization. It relies on a further developed H9800 sensor in 1/1.3-inch format and is said to offer a higher dynamic range.
This is combined with a 50 MP ultra wide-angle camera (f/2.0) including macro mode, which has autofocus, and an impressive 180 megapixel periscope telephoto camera, which also works with a very wide aperture of f/2.6 and offers optical image stabilization.
Honor combines all of this with a LiDAR focusing system with 1,200 laser focus points, which should enable faster and even more precise autofocus. The 50 MP selfie camera from the Pro model is used on the front, which is supported by a depth sensor for 3D face recognition.
Price and availability
The Honor Magic6 Ultimate is available in either a black or purple color scheme and will initially be launched in China at a price starting at 6,999 yuan, which corresponds to around 894 euros. The variant with 1 TB of system memory is priced at 7,699 yuan (around 983 euros). The flagship smartphone will then be launched globally in the second quarter of 2024 and find its way to Europe.
