Huawei presents P60 Pro with special camera

Huawei has now introduced the P60 Pro, which was already launched in China, in Germany as well. The heart of the new smartphone is its special camera. However, those who opt for the device will have to do without some Android core features and accept further restrictions.

No Google services and further restrictions

As a Chinese company, Huawei is affected by US trade restrictions and is therefore currently poorly supplied with hardware and software. This is clearly noticeable in the new P60 Pro. Most noticeable is the fact that Huawei relies on Android, but does not integrate any Google services into its smartphone. Among other things, this means that the Play Store is not available. Instead, apps have to be obtained via Huawei’s own creation – if they are offered there at all. Furthermore, the device does not have a 5G modem, which is also due to the trade restrictions. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is used.

Camera as the centerpiece

However, the most striking feature of the P60 Pro is, as already mentioned, the special camera. Huawei relies on a 48-megapixel main camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilization here, whose aperture is adjustable in ten steps in the range from f/1.4 to f/4.0. There is also a 13 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera and a 48 MP telephoto camera with a focal length of 90 mm and optical image stabilization. This telephoto camera is supposed to score with a particularly translucent f/2.1 aperture as well as macro shooting capabilities. This approach is new; so far, macro shots are usually made with the ultra-wide-angle camera. Huawei expects a significantly increased image quality from moving this feature to the telephoto camera.

Besides that, the P60 Pro is equipped with a 6.67-inch LTPO AMOLED display that resolves at 2,700 x 1,224 pixels and offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Kunlun Glass, the Chinese alternative to Gorilla Glass, is supposed to protect the display from damage. It is also IP68-certified and thus water-resistant. The device’s other features include a fingerprint sensor integrated into the display and a 4,815 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C cable or wirelessly. A battery charge of 50 percent is supposed to be achieved within just ten minutes when charging via cable.

P60 Pro: Price and Availability

The P60 Pro can be pre-ordered now from Huawei. Prices start at 1,199 Euros for a variant with eight GB of working memory and 256 GB of internal storage. The top model with twelve GB working and 512 GB internal storage costs 1,399 Euros. Those who order the most expensive variant directly from Huawei by June 5 will receive a discount of 100 euros as well as a free Huawei Watch GT 3. The phones are supposed to be shipped starting May 22.
