Husqvarna Automower 320, 430X and 450X NERA: New robotic mowers without perimeter wire

Winter is slowly coming to an end and spring is just around the corner. Just in time, manufacturer Husqvarna has introduced a whole range of new robotic mowers in the NERA series, which do not require a perimeter wire and, in the form of the Husqvarna Automower 450X, even reliably mow lawns up to 5,000 m² in size.

Meanwhile, more and more robotic mowers without perimeter wire are finding their way into the market. After the Ecovacs Goat G1 last fall, manufacturer Husqvarna is now also expanding its range of little helpers for the garden, adding three new models to the NERA product line.

The main difference between the Husqvarna Automower 320, 430X and 450X NERA is the lawn area covered. While the 320 comes in at up to 2,200 square feet, the 430X and 450X models are designed for areas up to 3,200 square feet and 5,000 square feet, respectively.

All three models do not require a perimeter wire: With the help of the intelligent Husqvarna EPOS Kit, virtual boundaries can be defined using satellite-based technology, in which the robotic lawnmower can then operate – all without you having to lay cables.

However, this kit must be purchased separately. There are no prices for it on the German website of the manufacturer. However, the Swiss homepage calls up 1,499 Swiss francs for the Epos kit, which is the equivalent of around 1,520 euros.

Full control; differences in navigation

Zone Control also lets you define work areas or exclusion zones (even temporarily) and, for example, customize the grass cutting height for individual sections of the garden and set schedules.

There are differences between the Husqvarna Automower 320, 430X and 450X NERA but also in the other equipment. For example, the robotic mowers of the 400 series rely on radar technology including object detection and avoidance, with which the robots automatically detect objects, animals or people thanks to sensors and automatically avoid them during their work.

On the other hand, this technology has to be dispensed with in the less expensive Automower 320. In addition, all three robotic mowers have smart technologies and the ability to control and monitor the planning and mowing process directly from a smartphone.

All Automower units with cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity are compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for smart home integration. Automower Connect also allows the robotic mowers to be combined with an existing Gardena Smart System to coordinate mowing and watering.

Prices and availability

The three Husqvarna Automower 320, 430X and 450X NERA robotic mowers are apparently expected to make their way to retailers shortly. A recommended retail price for the Automower 320 cannot be found, as the robotic mower is not yet mentioned on the manufacturer’s homepage.

However, the two larger models of the 400 series are. Accordingly, the Husqvarna Automower 430X starts at a recommended retail price of 3,479.00 euros, while the 450X is offered for 4,799.00 euros.
