Ikea officially announces new Symfonisk frame

Ikea recently published (by mistake?) the first pictures of its new products in the “Symfonisk series”. The most impressive is probably the picture frame, which not only looks pretty, but is also supposed to sound really good. The audio experts from Sonos are again supposed to be in charge of the audio enjoyment. We take a look at the chic piece of furniture.

Ikea doesn’t like speaker looks

Quite obviously, Ikea is not the very biggest fan of speakers that look the part. After all, the Swedish furniture store relies on the fusion of furniture piece and WiFi speaker in its popular Symfonisk range. The result not only looks chic, but also sounds really good thanks to Sonos support. At least this is the case with the products of the series available so far. Having already launched table lamps and mini shelves as audio furniture, Ikea is now going one step further. Thus, with the Symfonisk frame, a picture frame is to come that accommodates the popular audio technology in itself. What at first seems like pure magic is actually quite mundane technology. Two classic speakers are hidden here, along with a mid-woofer and tweeter.

The audio technology behind the screen is said to have it all. The frame itself also hides the power supply. The frame does not need more to convince its owners not only visually, but also from the sound. As we know from Sonos speakers, a stable Wi-Fi network is enough to get music out of the Symfonisk frame. This also results in the well-known features of the US company. For example, you should be able to combine two frames into a stereo pair. Of course, the classic multi-room features as well as a good understanding between other Symfonisk devices and Sonos speakers are also possible without any problems.

Ikea wants to create speakers with a homely design

As homes get smaller, many people don’t want to put technology that also looks like technology. Ikea wants to meet this desire with its new picture frame. The idea is to create speaker furniture that combines homey coziness with great sound. With the new Symfonisk frame, you should have the option of either hanging it on the wall or leaning it against the wall.

But unlike other picture frames, the new Symfonisk frame isn’t meant to open up the possibility of putting your own pictures on it. Here, you’ll have to settle for Ikea’s designs. However, since the Swedes rely on pleasingly unobtrusive pictures here, there should be something for everyone. In total, you have the choice between 12 different motifs.

Price and availability

It won’t be long before you can hang or place the good-sounding picture frame in your own four walls. Ikea itself plans to start selling the Symfonisk frame on July 15. The RRP is supposed to be 179 euros. The different motifs are to be available for 30 Euros each.
