iOS 15.2: Reset for forgotten code becomes easier

Have you ever forgotten the four- or six-digit device code for your iPhone? Then you will also be familiar with the annoying consequences of this. Until now, you had to completely reset Apple’s smartphone with the help of a PC. This is not only a time-consuming procedure. On top of that, this was always accompanied by the loss of your data. The Californian company has now intervened and finally simplified the process.

Thanks to iOS 15.2, resetting is easier

With its latest update, Apple is making life a little easier for the forgetful among us. If you enter your device code incorrectly too often, you’re looking at a locked device. The resulting problem solving was always anything but easy. Until now, you had to use a PC to get your locked smartphone working again. With the release of iOS 15.2, Apple has finally solved this problem. You can now reset your Apple device without a PC or Mac. How this is possible? Apple has now introduced the “Erase” feature on its lock screen. Here you can conveniently reset your smartphone or tablet without having to connect it to a computer.

Internet connection is a must

However, there are two requirements that must be met to enable a reset. On the one hand there is an active internet connection and on the other hand a login via Apple ID. When it comes to an active Internet connection, you should definitely make sure that you have a WLAN in your vicinity. If this is rarely the case, you should deactivate your SIM pin. It is not possible to enter it later when the device is locked. If the SIM pin is deactivated, the device dials into the mobile network. If there is an Internet connection, you can perform the deletion process. The device asks for your Apple ID and password again. This is to ensure that it is not made even easier for thieves to reset a stolen iPhone.

Get rid of your data

However, anyone who has forgotten their device code will not be able to avoid losing their data even with the new reset option. This is because the device is restored to its factory settings here as well. It is therefore all the more important that you regularly create a backup of your data. After the reset, this can be easily restored to your device. If your iPhone is freshly set up, you can simply set a new device code.
