iPad and iPhone Can Soon Be Operated by Mouse
At the WWDC Apple didn’t say a word about possible mouse support for the new operating system. However, developer Steve Troughton-Smith has already found and tested such support in the new iPadOS. He then reported on it.
The new function is aimed primarily at users with physical disabilities who cannot operate the device by hand. Apple had talked long and hard about speech controls for physically limited users at WWDC – why mouse support, which seems to be introduced as well, was not mentioned remains questionable.
The function should be usable not only with the iPad, but also with the iPhone and the iPod touch. The function called “Assistive Touch” supports USB mice as well as the Magic Trackpad and Bluetooth mice.
It remains to be seen whether there will be broader support for mice in iOS devices in the future.
