LG Ultragear 17G90Q: First ultrabook with RTX 3080 Max-Q coming in 2022

The South Korean manufacturer LG has announced an exciting ultrabook for gamers. The LG Ultragear 17G90Q is supposed to thrill even demanding gamers next year and relies on a GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q along with a 300 Hz fast display in a compact case.

LG’s first UltraGear gaming laptop

The LG Ultragear 17G90Q marks the first gaming laptop in the lineup, which is aimed at gamers and also includes gaming monitors. The final unveiling of the ultrabook is scheduled to take place at CES 2022 on January 04, but the initial announcement already whets the appetite for more.

LG’s Ultragear 17G90Q uses a 17-inch IPS panel with a frame rate of 300 Hz and a Full HD resolution with a response time of one millisecond. With a height of 21.4 mm and a weight of 2.64 kg, the gaming notebook is relatively compact, although it is not quite as small and light as the office devices of LG’s Gram series.

In return, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q is a dedicated high-end graphics card that needs to be cooled accordingly. LG has not yet provided any information about the GPU’s TGP. The battery is also much bigger with a capacity of 93 Wh.

An 11th-generation Intel processor (Tiger Lake) works in the case, which is made of aluminum. LG will not reveal which CPUs are available until CES 2022. Depending on the configuration, 16 GB or 32 GB of DDR4 RAM is available in dual-channel mode.

LG’s Ultragear 17G90Q also has two M.2 slots with NVMe support and up to 1 TB of mass storage. A secure login is possible via the fingerprint reader in the power button or via webcam using Windows Hello.

In addition to the LAN port, the notebook can also access the Internet wirelessly via the installed Intel Killer WLAN card with Wi-Fi 6E. The selection of ports is also impressive for a compact gaming notebook. There is a choice of:

  • 1x USB 4 Type C incl. USB power delivery and Thunderbolt 4,
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 Type C incl. charging USB powerdelivery and Displayport mode,
  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 Type-A,
  • 1x HDMI,
  • 1x LAN port RJ45,
  • 1x headset port,
  • 1x power supply connector,
  • 1x memory card reader for microSD cards and UFS

Price and Availability

So far, LG has only announced a launch for the Ultragear 17G90Q in the US and South Korea. However, the press release suggests that the gaming notebook should make it to Europe after that. The release is planned for the 1st quarter of 2022, and the manufacturer has not given any information about the prices yet.
