Logitech Mevo Core: 4K streaming camera with interchangeable lenses unveiled

Over the past few days, Logitech has held out the prospect of a new streaming camera in the Mevo series. This has now been officially unveiled: The Logitech Mevo Core focuses on 4K resolution, a compact design and interchangeable lenses. However, the camera will initially be launched exclusively in the USA and at a high price.

The Logitech Mevo Core in detail

With the new Logitech Mevo Core, the manufacturer wants to appeal to live streamers and content creators. The new camera expands the series, which has always been equipped with small sensors and reached a maximum resolution of 1080p, with a powerful and handy new model.

The cube-shaped streaming camera is just 9 cm x 9 cm in size and weighs 700 grams – without lens. The Mevo Core uses a CMOS sensor with 8.3 megapixels in micro four-thirds format (MFT) and can be fitted with suitable lenses.

Logitech has already published a list of currently tested and compatible lenses. However, this currently only lists four lenses, but is set to be constantly expanded. However, the manufacturer makes it clear that all MFT lenses should work with the Mevo Core.

Panasonic and Olympus are among the largest suppliers in the MFT camera segment and each have a whole range of high-quality lenses in their portfolios. This means that the range of applications of the streaming camera can be extended almost infinitely. Depending on the lens, large zooms are just as possible as macro or wide-angle shots.

However, you cannot take photos with the Logitech camera, which focuses exclusively on videos. A maximum of 4K UHD resolutions with up to 30 frames per second are possible with a maximum data rate of 40 Mbps.

The videos can be stored on an inserted microSD card, but the Logitech Mevo Core is also able to stream videos directly to the corresponding Mevo app for smartphones and tablets via Wi-Fi 6E. However, this only works in 1080p quality at 30 fps.

6 hours of battery life and webcam function

The Logitech Mevo Core has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is said to provide a runtime of up to 6 hours with 4K/30 video recordings. The camera is charged via USB Type-C, where it is constantly supplied with power and can also be used as a 4K webcam on a notebook or PC.

A total of two USB-C ports, an HDMI connection and a 3.5 mm TRS connection are available. The latter can be used to connect an external microphone that allows recordings in 16-bit at 48 kHz.

However, three MEMS microphones are also integrated so that sound recordings are also possible without a separate microphone. These rely on “Fraunhofer upHear Spatial microphone processing” and should therefore offer a convincing, spatial sound.

The Mevo Core also has a 1/4-inch thread on four sides and can therefore be used on almost any tripod and with additional accessories such as external displays or LED lights.

What it does not have, however, are controls. With the exception of the power button with LED battery status indicator and a button to release the connected lenses. The Logitech Mevo Core is therefore operated exclusively via the smartphone or desktop app.

Price and availability

The Logitech Mevo Core will initially be launched exclusively in the USA and Canada at a recommended retail price of 999 US dollars. Without lenses. The online store of US provider B&H is also putting together interesting bundles with various lenses. These start from 1,199.98 US dollars.

It is not yet clear when and at what price the Mevo Core will be available in Europe. Further details can be found on the Logitech website.
