Master & Dynamic MW75: Premium ANC headphones launch for 599 euros

With the Master & Dynamic MW75, the New York-based audio company blows the frontal attack on Apple AirPods Max and the new Sony WH-1000XM5. The over-ear headphones feature adaptive noise cancellation (ANC), up to 32 hours of battery life and high-quality angled beryllium drivers.

Master & Dynamic MW75: Premium headphones in detail

With the Master & Dynamic MW75, the audio manufacturer has unveiled a new premium over-ear headphone that is expected to take on competition from Apple and Sony as early as late June 2022.

The active noise cancellation (ANC) relies on an adaptive model that can automatically adjust to the environment. A total of three ANC modes are available, while four microphones measure the ambient noise and suppress it accordingly. A transparency mode, here called ambient listening mode, is of course also available. This amplifies sounds from the surroundings to provide more security or clearer conversations.

Four additional microphones are also supposed to enable clear phone conversations, even in loud environments. They are said to effectively filter out wind and ambient noise for clear intelligibility.

Angled beryllium drivers with a diameter of 40 mm are also used for a rich sound. However, the manufacturer did not comment on their specifications yet. However, the sound can be additionally adjusted via the M&D Connect app with the help of an equalizer.

Up to 32 hours of battery life

The battery of the Master & Dynamic MW75 is said to be able to last for around 32 hours with ANC deactivated. With noise cancellation activated, there are still a good 28 hours in it. There is also a quick-charge function. 15 minutes of charging via USB Type-C should be enough to power the over-ear headphones for six hours of music playback.

Other features include a wear detection that automatically pauses music playback when the headphones are removed. The MW75 transmits wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.1, where the manufacturer promises a range of around 30 meters.

Thanks to Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec, the quality, bit rate and latency of the audio playback automatically adapts to the conditions and thus also enables HD audio quality under ideal conditions.

Compared to its predecessor MW65, the design has also been overhauled and noticeably improved. The ear cups are made of lightweight and durable aluminum. Lambskin leather and memory foam are supposed to ensure a high level of wearing comfort at the ear cups. The weight of the MW75 is unusually high at around 340 grams. It remains to be seen how comfortable the headphones actually are with this.

Price and availability

The Master & Dynamic MW75 over-ear Bluetooth headphones will be available in stores from June 28, 2022. It will be offered in three different color options with black leather and gunmetal finish, gray leather and silver metal body, or brown leather and silver metal, according to the product website. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 599 euros.

Thus, the price is once again in the region of the competition from Apple and Sony. It will also be exciting to see how the model compares acoustically with the competition, especially since Sennheiser will soon launch the Momentum 4 Wireless. The predecessor model, Master & Dynamic MW65 ANC, is currently available for around 428 euros on Amazon.
