Mercedes EQS gets facelift and more range

The Mercedes EQS is the flagship of the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer’s all-electric fleet. Almost three years after its market launch, the long-established company has now presented a revised version. According to an official press release, it is not just the appearance that has changed.

Mercedes EQS with more standard equipment

What you don’t notice at first glance about the luxury car from Stuttgart is the larger battery. While the 2021 model still had 108.4 kWh, the facelift offers almost 10 kWh more battery capacity with 118 kWh. Of course, this is also reflected in the range. The longest-lasting model, the Mercedes EQS 450, will now be able to cover 822 km on a single full charge. For comparison: the previous model only managed a maximum of 753 km.

Mercedes has also tweaked the standard equipment. Here, the manufacturer is almost patronizing compared to the 2021 model. For example, the MBUX Hyperscreen, which previously came at extra cost and consists of three screens, is now standard. In the previous EQS, it cost the buyer a proud €8,500 extra. A heat pump will now also be fitted as standard. This ensures even greater energy efficiency, which in turn benefits the range.

Mercedes is even implementing an entirely new assistant with the “Automatic Lane Change” feature. The best thing about it: the feature comes as standard. As the name suggests, the sleek electric car changes lanes fully automatically. For safety reasons, however, it can only be used at speeds of up to 140 km/h. This corresponds to level 2 autonomous driving, underlining the Stuttgart-based company’s expertise when it comes to self-driving cars.

Premium edition for an additional 16,600 euros

It wouldn’t be a facelift if the Mercedes EQS hadn’t also undergone some visual changes. And indeed it has. The car manufacturer has set new accents in both the bodywork and the interior. However, many of the visual highlights come at an additional cost. For example, the “Electric Art Line” version.

Here, the Stuttgart-based company has given its sporty, elegant electric car chrome applications on the radiator grille, among other things. Mercedes fans will be delighted that this edition wants to show off the iconic upright star.

Another new feature is the “Rear Comfort Plus” equipment package, which includes a practical footrest for passengers for an extra charge of 3,867.50 euros. Those who really want to draw on the full range of options should take a look at the Manufaktur Selection.

Here, for a hefty surcharge of just under 16,600 euros, you get a special edition with illuminated door sills, chrome, nappa leather, AMG design and light-alloy wheels as well as seats from the Rear Comfort Plus package.

More equipment, same price

Mercedes is quite fair when it comes to pricing. Despite significantly more range and more standard equipment, the base prices for the flagship have not changed. The entry-level Mercedes EQS 450 starts at a price of 109,551.40 euros. The better-equipped versions also retain their current price tag. The Stuttgart-based company will be accepting orders for the luxury car with a powerful electric motor from April 25, 2024.
