Microsoft is working on AI functions for Xbox, including a chatbot

Artificial intelligence is conquering everyday life. Microsoft has also recognized this and is offering its own AI chatbot, Copilot, which is set to hit the ground running on Windows PCs and laptops from this autumn. The Xbox console division is also set to benefit from AI functions in the future and is apparently getting its own AI chatbot in the style of ChatGPT. Further AI updates should even be able to generate textures and content.

Microsoft plans AI chatbot and other features

Even though the current console generation clearly goes to Sony and the PlayStation 5, Microsoft is not giving up and is equipping the Xbox division with new functions or devices. Following recent talk of various Xbox handhelds, the next innovation revolves around the topic of artificial intelligence.

As the website The Verge reports, the Redmond-based company is currently testing an AI chatbot for Xbox, which will initially be primarily responsible for answering support queries for the console. However, the Xbox AI chatbot is only the first step of an advance in this area.

The chatbot is linked to Microsoft’s support documents for the Xbox division and should be able to respond to queries independently and even make game refunds from the Microsoft support website on its own. The “Xbox Support Virtual Agent” has already been confirmed by Microsoft and will be able to process all support requests from Xbox customers in the future.

AI features for game development on Xbox

However, this is only the first step in Microsoft’s push in the AI sector. According to insider sources from The Verge, the company is also planning to use AI functions in the area of game development and creation.

This includes, for example, graphics, textures and other assets, AI-supported testing of games and generative AI NPCs that will populate future Xbox games. There is also talk of a co-pilot feature that could, for example, assist players in various games. However, it could be years before this is ready and the new AI functions are actually integrated.

After all, the topic is hugely important for Microsoft. The company has already confirmed that innovations based on artificial intelligence will be an important part of the Xbox strategy in the future – alongside Xbox devices and exclusive games, some of which are already finding their way onto other consoles.

However, the source did not reveal whether AI will also be used in graphics calculation, for example for upscaling. Microsoft is also under pressure here, as current rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro will rely on a specially developed upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling. So it remains exciting.
