New edition of the Dacia Spring comes for less than 17,000 euros

The Dacia Spring is regarded as the “Volkswagen” par excellence in the electric car sector. This is due to its attractive price-performance ratio. Now the new edition has also been given a price tag. According to an official press release from the Renault subsidiary, the new electric runabout will be launched at a price starting at 16,900 euros.

Dacia Spring not only gets a new design

The first glance at the “snout” of the Dacia Spring could cause confusion for some. After all, the small all-electric city runabout looks confusingly similar to its brother model, the Dacia Duster. This feeling disappears again when you look at the rest of the new edition. Here, the Spring once again presents itself as an extremely compact subcompact that should even fit into small parking spaces.

As part of the new edition, the Romanian car manufacturer has not only made visual adjustments, but has also made some technical changes here and there. For example, 220 km should now be possible on a full battery charge. For people who only travel in urban areas anyway, this should be more than enough. The only pity is that nothing has changed in terms of charging power. At a maximum of 30 kW, this is rather slow.

Of course, the acceleration is also not comparable with that of higher-priced competitors. If you want to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in the new Dacia Spring, you have to press the accelerator pedal for 14 seconds. However, this is only the case if you opt for one of the higher equipment lines with a 48 kW engine. The basic version only has 33 kW, which results in an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h of 19 seconds.

Now with Vehicle-to-Load and new screen

A really cool feature of the new Dacia Spring is the introduction of the Vehicle-to-Load feature. This allows you to use the small all-electric runabout to supply other devices with power. In a way, it acts as a kind of power socket. This is not the only thing that increases practicality. The so-called Youclip system is now also available here. You can use three mounting points to attach a gadget of your choice.

The interior has also undergone technical changes. You now get Media Control as standard in every Dacia Spring. Here, Dacia has equipped the steering wheel with additional buttons to make operation more convenient. If you add a little extra money and opt for the Extreme equipment variant, you get a 10-inch touchscreen with Media Nav Live. This naturally has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on board.

The frunk is also really practical and remarkable considering the small size of the vehicle. There is a whopping 35 liters of space under the hood. A few small items can easily be stored here. There is of course considerably more space in the trunk. Here you can enjoy a standard volume of 308 liters and even benefit from 1,004 liters when the rear seat is folded down. Given the dimensions of 1.77m x 1.52m x 3.7 (WxHxL), these are good figures.

More assistance systems on board

The Dacia Spring’s assistance systems have probably seen the most changes. This is mainly due to the fact that new EU regulations have come into force, which have expanded the catalog of mandatory assistance systems. For example, there is now automatic emergency braking, rear parking aid, lane change warning, drowsiness detection, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.

Prices and availability

You can order the Dacia Spring from mid-April at a price starting at 16,900 euros. There is a total of four equipment variants to choose from. The base price includes the Dacia Spring Electric 45 Essential. If you add 3,000 euros, you can get the fully equipped Dacia Spring 65 Extreme for 19,900 euros.
