New flagships from AVM: FRITZ!Box 7690 and 5690 Pro

June 2024 is an extremely exciting month for AVM. After all, the expert for reliable network solutions will be launching two new Wi-Fi routers in the premium segment in the coming weeks. The FRITZ!Box 7690 and 5690 Pro are long-awaited hardware among AVM fans.

Patent dispute delays release of the new FRITZ!Box

AVM has good news for anyone who has been waiting a long time for the new FRITZ!Box 7690 or the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro. The company behind the two new routers has announced in a press release that they will be available this month. The market launch was originally scheduled for 2023. This applies at least to the 5690 Pro.

However, there appear to have been minor delays internally at AVM, which is why the release has been postponed by six months without further ado. The problems were probably primarily caused by a patent dispute with Huawei. However, this now seems to have been resolved and the two companies have probably reached an agreement.

Top model for DSL and DSL-fiber combination

AVM wants to appeal to a wide range of buyers with its two new routers. Firstly, there is the FRITZ!Box 7690, which is a premium-class DSL router. However, if you want to use fiber optics here, you will need a separate fiber optic model. This is then connected to one of the two 2.5 Gbit connections.

The FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro sounds much less complicated. It not only comes with a suitable DSL connection ex works. A fiber optic cable can also be plugged in here. AVM itself advertises the 5690 as the perfect combination model aimed at customers who want to switch to fiber optics soon, but are not currently dependent on DSL.

Prices and availability

If a DSL connection in a premium router is enough for you, you can now order the FRITZ!Box 7690. AVM is calling for an RRP of 329 euros. For the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro, on the other hand, you will have to wait a little longer. However, it is expected to be released in June. AVM will then charge an RRP of 359 euros for its combination model.
