AVM presented four new products at the start of MWC 2023. Among them are the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro for fiber and DSL with Wi-Fi 7 and the FRITZ!Smart Gateway with DECT and Zigbee.
The FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro in detail
The rumors that we reported back on February 01 have come true. Because with the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro ha AVM presented the first own router with Wi-Fi 7. It relies on a new, upright design and is suitable for all common fiber and DSL connections in Germany.
Using the three frequency bands 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and for the first time 6 GHz, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro can transmit data rates of several GBit/s. The 2.5 Gigabit LAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports enable fast connections.
IP telephony is also on board, as is a telephone system including connection of cordless phones as well as analog phones (FXS). In addition to DECT ULE, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro supports the Zigbee wireless standard for integrating many smart home devices and is prepared for the new Matter standard. Mobile phone sticks or printers and storage media can be quickly connected via USB. As usual from FRITZ!, the future-proof model comes up with full comfort for telephony, VPN, WLAN guest access and firewall.
FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS for fiber optics with 10 Gigabit/s
AVM has the new FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS up its sleeve especially for fiber optic connections, which uses the XGS-PON fiber optic standard to realize data rates of up to 10 Gbps. It can be connected either directly to the wall socket or to the ONT via WAN. Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6 are also on board.
Four Gigabit LAN ports are offered. For telephony, this fast FRITZ!Box offers a comprehensive telephone system including connection of cordless phones and analog phones (FXS). In addition to DECT, the FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS also supports the Zigbee radio standard for the integration of many smart home devices and is prepared for the upcoming Matter standard.
FRITZ!Box 6860 5G
The third in the bunch is the AVM FRITZ!Box 6860 5G, which enables 5G-quality surfing from home at speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps on all 5G cellular networks and supports 5G NSA and SA, as well as LTE across all major 5G and LTE bands in Europe.
The router distributes the 5G/LTE connection via WLAN mesh according to the Wi-Fi 6 standard, and devices can be connected via Gigabit LAN. There is also a telephone system including telephony via mobile radio (VoLTE, VoNR). The familiar home network convenience of a FRITZ!Box as a mesh master for WLAN, telephony and smart home is thus also realized in 5G networks.
The new small housing of the FRITZ!Box with power connection via Power over Ethernet enables flexible placement.

FRITZ!Smart Gateway with DECT and Zigbee
Rumors about the FRITZ!Smart Gateway with DECT and Zigbee have also come true. “Especially for lighting control, many integration possibilities open up, as existing Zigbee LED lamps from other manufacturers can be easily integrated into the FRITZ! smart home,” promises AVM.
The smart gateway connects automatically via WLAN or Gigabit LAN, while the FRITZ!Box serves as a mesh center. In addition, the new smart gateway allows even more DECT devices such as radiator controllers, wireless switches and LED lamps to be integrated into the FRITZ! smart home. The smart gateway also makes existing FRITZ!Box models Zigbee-capable.
Settings for all devices can be made centrally via the FRITZ!Box or via the gateway. The devices can then be conveniently operated from home or on the road via the FRITZ!App Smart Home, a FRITZ!Fon and the browser. The gateway also offers a UB port for charging mobile devices.
