Predator and Nitro: Acer presents three new gaming notebooks

Acer recently unveiled three revamped gaming notebooks: The Predator Triton 300 and the Predator Helios 300 as well as the Nitro 5 get new processors as well as graphics cards.

Tiger Lake processors for the Predator line

The Predator Triton 300 will in all likelihood soon be able to be equipped with the Core i7-11800H, which Acer’s stated maximum clock speed of 4.6 GHz suggests. The GeForce RTX 3080 from Nvidia will then be available as the most powerful graphics card that can be selected. In addition, there will be up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM as well as three different screens, all of which measure 15.6 inches. Here, buyers can choose between a model with Full HD resolution and 144 Hz, a model with Full HD resolution and 360 Hz, and one with QHD resolution and 165 Hz.

In any case, the new Predator Triton 300 is equipped with a keyboard that offers 4-zone RGB lighting, as well as quite a few ports, which also include an HDMI 2.1 port with the new model. Furthermore, you’ll find two USB 3.2 Gen 1 A and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 A ports, a mini DisplayPort, a Thunderbolt 4 and an Ethernet port.

The new Predator Helios 300 can be equipped with the GeForce RTX 3070 as a maximum. The GeForce RTX 3050 Ti is available as an alternative. In terms of the available processors, it does not differ from the Predator Triton 300. The selectable monitors also do not differ in terms of performance. However, in the Predator Helios 300, besides the 15.6-inch variants, those that measure 17.3 inches can also be selected. The device also offers up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, an HDMI 2.1, a Thunderbolt 4 and an Ethernet port.

New variants of the Nitro 5

The Nitro 5, the latest version of which was introduced just earlier this year, is also getting a makeover. So far, all the latest graphics cards on this model are available exclusively with AMD processors, which is due to the lack of compatibility of the old Intel processors. With the introduction of the new Tiger-Lake models, this is now changing, which makes the combination options on the Nitro 5 jump.

Specifically, this means that combinations of Intel processors and current graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 3070 will also be possible in the latest model. However, the GeForce RTX 3080 will still be installed exclusively together with an AMD processor. The model’s other features do not differ significantly from the two new Predator devices. However, it also has the option of installing two PCIe or SATA SSDs with a capacity of up to 2 TB as RAID0. You can also choose between a 15.6-inch and a 17.3-inch screen for this model.

Prices and availability

The new Predator Triton 300 will be available from July and will cost around 1,300 euros in the cheapest variant, while the Predator Helios 300 will not be launched in the 15.63-inch version at the same price until August; in the 17.3-inch variant it will already be available from July at a price of at least around 1,800 euros. The new Nitro 5, meanwhile, will already go on sale in both sizes in July and will cost at least around 1,200 and around 1,300 euros, respectively.
