Razer Introduces Three New Devices: Basilisk Essential, Blackwidow and Kraken

Razer presents three new peripherals. While the mouse and keyboard presented here are below the other models in their respective series in terms of quality and price, the new headset is intended to be a classic successor to the previous generation.

Basilisk Essential: A slimmed down version of the Basilisk mouse

The new gaming mouse “Basilisk Essential” is subject to the standard basilisk in all points. While the normal basilisk uses a PixArt sensor, the Essential version uses an unspecified no-name sensor with a maximum of 6,400 DPI. The resolution can be set in five steps between 200 and said 6,400 DPI. However, Razer does not use the two keys used in the standard version, which allow a precise DPI value change. Instead, there is only one button for setting the resolution – the DPI value can therefore only be changed sequentially.

With values of 5.6 metres per second and 294 metres per square second respectively, speed and acceleration are far below those of the normal basilisk mouse.

The RGB lighting is also more minimalistic: Only the Razer logo is illuminated.

The key assignment is fully programmable via the Razer software. Five profiles can be saved and called up as required. Secondary assignment is also possible.
The slimmed down version of the Basilisk mouse is available for 50 Euro. So Razer wants to appeal above all to price-conscious gamers who are looking for a compromise between low price and high quality.

Blackwidow: More than in the Lite and less than in the Elite version

The presented Blackwidow keyboard also seems rather weak in comparison with the high-quality Elite version, which was presented in September. Here, however, the comparison with the Lite version is obvious, against which the new Blackwidow version can show off.

The Blackwidow keyboard is equipped with green Razer switches and a key illumination that can be set individually. The entire RGB color space is available for color selection. The user can choose from different lighting modes and create his own LED profiles.
Additional keys with media functions must not be used. However, a gaming mode is available as well as the possibility of macro recording. Five macro profiles are individually programmable.
Unlike the Elite version, only the normal, not the extended ISO 105 layout is used. The keyboard is available for 130 Euro.

Kraken: New headset for PC and console

The new Kraken headset will replace the predecessor “Kraken Pro V2”. Among other things, it offers better microphone noise suppression, a more flexible headband and more comfortable ear cups – all according to the manufacturer Razer. It should not only be compatible with PCs, but also with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as with Nintendo Switch and all mobile devices that have a connection for 3.5 mm jack plugs. The headset is available for 80 Euro.

Prices and availability

All new devices are already available in the Onlineshop of the manufacturer. The indicated prices are the recommended retail prices which are called up by the manufacturer as end customer prices. It is to be expected that other dealers will offer the devices at significantly lower prices. The devices will be available in retail stores during the second quarter of this year.
