Renault Mégane E-Tech launches for around 30,000 euros

Renault was considered a pioneer in the field of electric cars with the Zoe. Now the French are releasing the Mégane E-Tech a new car on a different platform that already starts at around 30,000 euros.

Renault Mégane E-Tech to arrive in March 2022

Starting in March of next year, the electric Mégane E-Tech will compete in the compact class against cars such as the VW ID3 or Citroen C4, already starting comparatively cheaply. According to the manufacturer, the basic version of the compact French car will be available from around 30,000 euros.

Apart from the name, however, the E-Tech does not have much in common with the normal Mégane. Instead, Renault has opted for a completely new platform. Technically, it is based on a pure electric motor on the front axle, which is optionally available with 96 kilowatts/130 hp or 161 KW, or 220 hp.

Batteries in the floor of the electric car supply the Mégane with energy. Models with a capacity of 40 or 60 kilowatt hours are available, resulting in a range of 300 or 470 km respectively. At the maximum charging power of 30 watts, the electric Frenchman is ready for 300 kilometers of range in 30 minutes.

The more powerful version of the Mégane E-Tech accelerates from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

Mégane E-Tech Design

Design: interior and exterior

From a purely visual standpoint, the Renault Mégane E-Tech focuses on a fresh look compared to the regular Mégane, which is why Renault will continue to offer the classic model in parallel. An SUV-like front end and compact sedan shape give it an unusual look.

The full-LED signature headlights, dazzling 3D rear stripe, 20-inch alloy wheels, gold chrome accents and a black roof make for an original design. The loud trunk holds around 400 liters, which is quite ample.

Inside, the E-Tech relies on digital instruments and a large touchscreen. Navigation via Google Maps is on board, and thanks to Google Play an almost endless number of apps can be installed. The Harman Kardon audio system is supposed to provide an excellent sound.

Thanks to its modular design, the Mégane E-Tech offers a particularly large amount of space at the front and rear. An induction charging station in the front, USB-C ports in the rear, a center console, 33 L of storage space in the middle and on the side are available.

In addition to the Mégane E-Tech, Renault has a lot of plans for the future with its new e-car platform.  Another model with a range of more than 600 kilometers as well as electric successors to the R4 and R5 are to follow. Alpine is also coming up with a purely electric sports car.
