Sonos Era 300 and Era 100 in detail

With the Sonos Era 300, I am a new type of speaker that wants to realize a rich sound including 3D audio with Dolby Atmos. It relies on a full six powerful drivers that direct the sound to the left, right, front and top to achieve Dolby Atmos surround sound. In this way, it wants to inspire with an immersive sound during music and movies.

The Era 300’s complex acoustic design is housed in an elegant, hourglass-shaped cabinet. It can also be connected to Sonos Arc (our review) or Beam (Gen 2) soundbars for an even more immersive Dolby Atmos experience. During development, the company said it worked closely with leading artists and creators to achieve the best possible sound.

Sonos Era 100: New edition of the One

The Sonos Era 100, on the other hand, is the new edition of the popular Sonos One. It is only minimally larger than the One and features completely new hardware and software, which is intended to achieve stereo sound along with rich bass.

Two angled tweeters send the high frequencies to the left and right and thus achieve a clear, true stereo sound. The midrange driver, on the other hand, aims to provide impressive bass.

The whole thing is packed into a sleek and modern design that blends unobtrusively into your home. Two Era 100 can be used as surround speakers at the next movie night to create a surround sound system together with a soundbar, alternatively a stereo pair can provide a room-filling sound.

Sustainable Designs

Sonos Era 300 and Era 100 focus on modern, sleek designs and are made from recycled materials. They also feature a brand-new user interface and innovations that extend lifespan and consume less energy.

“The new Era speakers are an important step in our journey to create products that are even more durable, function more efficiently and use safer and recyclable materials,” said Kitty Suidman, Design Director, Product Sustainability at Sonos.

Era 300 and Era 100 are made from recycled plastic and come in packaging made from 100% sustainably produced paper. They are designed to consume less than two watts of power in standby mode and feature a new, innovative sleep mode.

Fewer adhesives and more screws are also said to make repairs easier, while they are designed to last for years.

The new user interface comes with a capacitive slider for volume and offers quick music control with Sonos Voice Control, the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth.

All of your favorite content is streamed via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and connected directly to other audio devices, such as a turntable, via an AUX cable and the Sonos input adapter.

Thanks to Trueplay, the microphones in the Sonos Era 300 and Era 100 measure the individual acoustics of the room and adjust the sound directly to them via the Sonos app. 3D audio from Apple Music will also be supported starting March 28, 2023. 3D audio via Apple Music is available for Sonos Era 300, Arc and Beam (Gen 2).

The Sonos Era 300 smart speaker will go on sale March 28, 2023. The manufacturer’s MSRP is €499.00. The Sonos Era 100, on the other hand, starts at the same time for 279.00 euros.
