Ten euros a month for a music flat rate is too much for you? Then Spotify Plus might be just the thing for you. In the US, the market leader in music streaming is testing a new subscription model for just 99 cents per month.
Spotify Plus as a cheap alternative
While Spotify has already increased the prices of the premium subscription in many countries, Germany has so far been spared from the price increase. With Spotify Plus, however, there could be a new variant in the near future, which should appeal to occasional users in particular.
According to TheVerge, testing of the new 99-cent tariff has already started in the US, positioning itself between the free variant and Spotify Premium in terms of features. Just like Spotify Free, Spotify Plus is ad-supported, so subscribers still have to live with ads between songs.
What advantages does Spotify Plus offer? In contrast to the free variant, it is possible to skip as many songs as you want during music playback. In addition, certain tracks can be played specifically – in the free version, only random playback, as well as six skips per hour are possible so far.
Official launch still uncertain
When and if Spotify Plus will be launched for all customers and also offered outside the US is currently still unclear. It is also possible that the 99 cent subscription will disappear again after the test.
It is also currently unclear whether this will enable music downloads and offline use. There is no news about the launch of the planned HiFi option called Spotify HiFi. This was already introduced more than half a year ago and is supposed to make the streaming service competitive again in the fight against Apple Music and Amazon Music; after all, the two services already offer lossless sound quality.
