Twitter tests edit function

Almost since the beginning of Twitter, users have been demanding the ability to change tweets. Now, Twitter is showing a willingness to accommodate and is testing the function. For the time being, however, it will only be made available to a small group of people. After Notes, this is the second new feature Twitter has begun testing this summer.

No editing function so far

Until now, Twitter has not offered its users the ability to edit their tweets. For example, typos or incorrect tags can no longer be undone. So far, the only option is to delete the tweet and replace it with a new one. However, this is often problematic, as it also deletes all reactions to the original tweet. With the new edit function, this is to change fundamentally.

Users have the option of editing tweets for 30 minutes. Twitter attaches great importance to making all changes to tweets transparent. This is to ensure that the entire conversation that unfolds from the tweet in question remains comprehensible. For this reason, Twitter marks all edited tweets as such in the test version and attaches a retrievable change log to them that makes all previous versions visible.

When announcing the new function, Twitter also pointed out that during the test phase it will keep a precise record of how the revision function changes the way people behave and communicate on Twitter. Based on the observations made in the process, a decision will be made as to whether the function will be expanded or scrapped after the test phase.

Small group of people for test phase

The test phase is not open to all members of the platform, but only to an exclusive group of people. In addition to employees of the company, users who have a Twitter Blue subscription will be given the opportunity to revise their tweets. Twitter Blue is a paid version in which beta features can be used before they are made available to the general public. Twitter has also announced that the test phase will be limited to a single country.
