Urtopia: High-end carbon e-bike including voice control launches in Germany

With the Urtopia, e-bike fans can expect a futuristic-looking high-end pedelec, which is now also coming to Germany in an adapted version. Thanks to a full carbon body, the bike weighs just 14 kg, while the rest of the equipment sounds extremely appealing.

Urtopia: e-bike comes to Germany with a hefty discount

The Urtopia e-bike is manufactured in Hong Kong, but Mathis Heller, a well-known designer who has been responsible for the BMW i series and the Siemens ICE 3 high-speed train, among other things, is responsible for the look.

After the high-end e-bike went through a successful crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo, raising around 3.170 million euros at the current time, the Urtopia will soon also be launched in a variant specially adapted to the German market in this country.

Even in purely visual terms, the pedelec stands out from most commercially available e-bikes with its unique, curved frame. The frame is also largely made of robust and ultra-light carbon, which makes for a particularly low weight of around 14 kilograms. Nevertheless, the permissible total weight is 110 kg.

Strong technology in the Urtopia

But the high-end Urtopia e-bike also has a lot to offer in other respects. For example, the manufacturer installs a 250-watt motor complete with rear-wheel drive, which comes to a torque of 35 Nm. Especially for the German market, the morotized support is limited to a maximum of 25 km/h in order to comply with the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). Appropriate lighting for approval is also fitted in this country.

A 360 Wh Samsung Li-ion battery, which is fully charged within two and a half hours, provides the necessary energy. This is supposed to realize a range of 50 km to 130 km, depending on support and terrain.

Front and rear, the e-bike relies on hydraulic disc brakes, while a low-maintenance belt drive (Gates Carbon Drive) is used instead of a chain. This is said to last for up to 30,000 kilometers. A total of five different operating modes are available (Pedal, Eco, Comfort, Sport and Turbo).

Another special feature is the smart handlebar (“Smartbar”), which enables, among other things, AI-controlled voice operation (including two voice-canceling microphones and a 3W speaker) or biometric unlocking via fingerprint. There is also eSIM support with 4G so that the Urtopia can be located via GPS in case of theft, for example. WiFi and Bluetooth are also part of the package, as well as an LED dot-matrix display and various sensors. A companion app for iOS and Android is also available.

Prices and Availability

Offered in two different sizes, the Urtopia e-bike is available in two different sizes: Medium is designed for riders between 165 cm and 180 cm, while Large also serves people up to 195 cm tall. In addition, there are three different color schemes which, just like the frame size, have no effect on the price.

The UVP is 2,999.00 euros, with delivery scheduled for May 2022. Pre-orders are possible with a quantity of 100 euros, and there will then be a discount of 400 euros on the price for delivery.
