VW unveils ID.7: E-limousine offers range of up to 700 km

After numerous teasers and the first presentation at CES 2023, Volkswagen has now officially unveiled the ID.7 electric sedan. The model is in the upper mid-range segment and is scheduled for delivery in Europe from Hebrst 2023.

The VW ID.7 in detail

The new ID.7 marks the German automaker’s first all-electric model, which is in the upper mid-range segment. It aims to score with a compelling electric motor and offers a range of up to 700 kilometers according to WLTP.

“As early as 2026, we will offer the broadest e-portfolio of any manufacturer – from the entry-level model for under 25,000 euros to the new top model ID.7. Our goal by 2030: an e-car share in Europe of 80 percent,” says Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand in the course of the ID.7 presentation. From 2033, VW will then only have e-cars in Europe.

As for the new sedan, it marks the first MEB (modular e-drive train) model with a completely new, highly efficient drive generation. And it comes in the form of the 210 kW APP550 powertrain, which the Group unveiled just a few days ago.

The new powertrain has also been optimized in terms of energy consumption and is thus expected to achieve a WLTP range of up to 700 kilometers, depending on battery size. However, this only applies to the ID.7 Pro S model with an 85-kWh engine, which is scheduled for release next year.

The normal ID.7 Pro comes with a 77 kWh battery and offers a range of up to 615 kilometers. Charging takes place, depending on the model, at a maximum of 200 kW or 170 kW.

Large and chic

Otherwise, the VW ID.7 comes to a length of 4.97 meters and thus offers space for the whole family – proclaimed target group for the sedan. There is room for 532 liters in the trunk, while loading is supposed to be particularly easy thanks to the large tailgate.

Inside, luxurious details and a tidy look reign supreme, which should make the hassle surrounding the ID.3 a thing of the past. At the center is an infotainment system complete with 15-inch touchscreen, and there’s also voice control and a 700-watt sound system with 14 speakers and subwoofer in the trunk.

The model also features a “Smart Glass” panoramic roof that can be electronically toggled opaque or clear via touch control. Optionally, the seats offer a cooling, heating and drying function and can be equipped with a massage function.

Added to this are modern assistance systems. On request, the ID.7 also supports assisted lane changes on the multi-lane highway via “Travel Assist” from 90 km/h. The ID.7 can also park in the parking space. The sedan can even park fully automatically if desired, and it can even do so via smartphone without you having to sit in the car.

Launch in fall 2023

The VW ID.7 electric sedan will be delivered starting in the fall of 2023, as Volkswagen announces in the presentation. The exact date is currently still unknown, as are the prices that the Volkswagen Group is charging.
