And Xiaomi greets us every day. With the Mi Mix 4, the Chinese company has introduced a new flagship smartphone that scores with powerful technology and an unusual design. Among other things, it features an innovative front-facing camera that is completely hidden under the display.
The specs of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 is supposed to replace the previous top model Mi 11 Ultra. For this, the makers have come up with some exciting features. The design of the device is already unusual: Instead of aluminum or glass, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 is made of ceramic – which makes the smartphone extremely scratch-resistant according to the manufacturer and results in a 30% lower weight at the same time.
Nevertheless, the 6.67-inch Mi Mix 4 still weighs 225 grams with a thickness of 8 mm. The AMOLED display offers a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels with a frame rate of 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 480 Hz. Support for Dolby Vision is also on board, while the display is protected by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. HDR10+ and 10-bit TrueColor are also supported, while the contrast ratio is said to be 5,000,000:1.
In terms of acoustics, Xiaomi relies on speakers from Harman Kardon. In addition, a 5G modem with 19 antennas is installed, and a total of 42 frequency bands are supported. A UWB chip for using ultra-wideband technology is also part of the features.
The brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC is also used, which consists of a powerful ARM Cortex-X1 computing core with clock rates of up to 3 GHz, three Cortex-A78 and four frugal Cortex-A55. After all, it is supposed to be almost six percent faster than the normal Snapdragon 888.
Either 8 or 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM are used, and there are options of 128, 256, and 512 gigabytes in terms of storage. A 4,500 mAh battery is supposed to provide the necessary power, which can be quickly charged with 120 watts via cable. A maximum of 50 watts is possible wirelessly. However, the ambient temperature must not exceed 37 degrees Celsius to reach this speed.
Thrilling camera setup
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 doesn’t let itself down in terms of the camera either. A triple camera is offered on the rear, which is made up of the following lenses:
- Main camera: 108 megapixels, f/1.95, 1/1.33-inch Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor, OIS
- Ultra-wide angle camera: 13 megapixels, f/2.2, 120 degree viewing angle
- Tele camera: 8 megapixels, OIS, focal length of 120 mm, 50x zoom (combined)
The front-facing camera also looks impressive, triggering at 20 megapixels and disappearing completely under the display. The under-display camera is not visible from the front: there is no punch hole or notch.
Prices and availability
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 has only been officially announced for China so far. There, the variant with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage is offered for the equivalent of around €658. The top model with 12 GB and 512 GB storage costs around € 829. It remains to be seen whether and at what price the smartphone will also come to Europe.
