XMG ULTRA 17 for a merciless gaming performance

The new XMG ULTRA 17 promises gaming performance at its finest, combining Intel’s 11th-generation desktop processors with NVIDIA graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 3080.

Focus on extreme performance

The XMG ULTRA 17 offers performance of a high-end desktop PC in a laptop. Intel’s 11th-generation desktop processors (Rocket Lake) are used for the enormous performance, keeping all others at bay. The Core i9-11900K has eight cores, 16 threads and works with the full TDP of 125 watts, which achieves the incredible performance of the ULTRA 17. The desktop level is also achieved by the motherboard with the Intel Z590 Express chipset, which is the flagship for Socket 1200 systems. This makes simultaneous streaming and gaming as well as multitasking workloads feasible without any problems.

By integrating the strongest NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards up to the RTX 3080 with a memory of 16 GB and ray tracing capabilities, the XMG ULTRA 17 puts other solutions in the shade. The GPU is on a plugged-in board and is not soldered. The ULTRA 17 isn’t satisfied with – as usual – a TGP of 150 watts, but brings a TGP of up to 165 watts. This is the first graphics card in the mobile sector that is connected via a full 16 PCI Express 4.0 lanes.

The ULTRA 17 comes up with four SO-DIMM slots and thus holds up to 128 GB DDR4 RAM with a high clock rate of up to 3200 MHz. The XMG has a total of four M.2 slots for PCI Express SSDs and can offer up to 32 TB of local storage. All slots are equipped with SSD heat sinks at the factory.

The customized cooling system is perfectly matched to the components of the ULTRA 17 and easily keeps the temperatures of the washed desktop CPU and graphics chip in check. For this, penetrating dust is directed to the outside by a self-cleaning function via an anti-dust tunnel. In order to prevent dirt particles from getting stuck between the fins of the heat sinks, the fans of the ULTRA 17 have a reverse function, so the maintenance effort is very low.

The keyboard of the XMG ULTRA 17 has everything needed for maximum control. The RGB key illumination is individually configurable. With another RGB LED bar on the back, the gaming look becomes even more impressive.

IPS display or UHD display with G-SYNC

There are two different displays to choose from for the XMG ULTRA 17. One is an IPS display with G-SYNC and a refresh rate of 300 Hz, which is one of the fastest gaming displays on the market. G-SYNC ensures optimal synchronization between the graphics card’s image output and the display. Thus, the user gets a smooth gaming experience without tearing with insanely fast response times. Due to the high refresh rate, you get a speedy and professional precision in gameplay. In addition, there are intense and bright colors with first-class contrasts and black levels, as well as a 100% coverage of the sRGB color space and high viewing angle stability.

On the other hand, a UHD display with G-SYNC can be selected for the XMG ULTRA 17. Its increased pixel density (3840 x 2160 pixels) ensures a razor-sharp display in gameplay, and it also offers a breathtaking display otherwise. The sRGB color space is covered 100 percent and can easily meet the demands of content creation professionals. Especially due to the exceptionally high color fidelity, photos and videos can be edited excellently. The UHD display also achieves excellent black levels, impresses with brilliant colors, excellent contrasts and offers G-SYNC support for gameplay with maximum depth.

Connectivity and ports

The ULTRA 17 comes with two fast Thunderbolt 4 ports with data throughput of up to 40 Gbps. These are also used to connect external monitors at the same time and are compatible with 8K resolution. The notebook is as flexible as a desktop PC and comes with an HDMI 2.1 output, two G-SYNC-enabled Mini DisplayPorts 1.4a and Dynamic HDR support. Apart from the internal display, up to three additional external displays can be controlled. The connectivity is enormous. The XMG ULTRA 17 comes with a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port, three USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, a full-sized SD card reader connected via UHS-III, as well as a headphone jack and microphone input. The headphone output is fully headset-compatible without an additional splitter. This is joined by a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port from Killer and WiFi 6.

Extraordinary Surround Sound

Surround sound is provided by the Creative Super X-Fi UltraDSP chip on the XMG ULTRA 17. Here, the playback is individually adjusted by an AI-based room sound simulator. To ensure that the result is really optimal, the head and ear shape can be measured with an app. The software then uses the obtained data to make the right one and adjusts the settings accordingly. The sound chip convinces with a crystal-clear 24-bit sound reproduction and DAC, which has an integrated and powerful headphone amplifier.

Availability and prices

Both display variants of the XMG ULTRA 17 will be available for purchase in mid-April at a price of 2,749.00 euros.
